That was the deal breaker for me. It was the worst manual gearbox that I've ever used(well apart from the one that I had in my Skoda Estelle).
Every single Z4m or e9x m3 discussion you churn out the same stuff day in day out, don't you get bored of repeating yourself endlessly to the Internet? Personally I wish you'd give it a rest, nice to hear some other people's opinions other than your repetitive own on a thread about said cars tbh.cerb4.5lee said:

If not trying one might be an education!

They are great cars I had a 3.0si manual for a couple of years and recently traded it in for an SLK 55AMG. The only thing lacking in it really was any toys to play with it was rather basic and austere inside and everything was just black. It drove brilliantly handled really well and was reasonably quick. I just fancied a change.
If you dont mind me asking what do you think about the SLK55?Have you had any issues with it?
They seem to have levelled off a bit price wise and for what you have to pay to listen to that V8 engine they dont seem too bad on paper at least.

Clutch Delay Valve delete helped with the Gearbox (especially 1st to 2nd). Also the gearbox improves as it warms up. Real event of a car but servicing can be eye watering.
Tell us more?Completely transformed my box, slick from cold now.

I'd take the more rounded Z4 3.0 Coupe every time.
As an owner of a 3.0 Coupe, this is music to my ears. Thank you.Edited by Niffty951 on Thursday 28th November 22:18
It provides 90% of the performance of the M and is a much more usuable car.
The N52 straight six is a fantastic engine and you can’t sniff at 5.7 to 62mph and 155mph
In the real world there really isn’t much between the M and the Si
Running costs are much less than the M as it doesn’t have many of the M issues and servicing costs
It benefits for much lower insurance and road tax
The Si is definitely the pick of the range in my humble opinion

I've had my 3.0 Si Sport Coupe for nearly five years as a daily driver and had frequently thought about "upgrading" to an M, but it just makes no sense.

And on the reverse side of your argument I wouldn’t take an n52 over an s54 for love nor money the s54 is a peach of an engine. Better in every way . After driving the Si I don’t think there’s any comparison to be made other than cheap parts ? But the s54 isn’t an expensive beast to keep I have two, they give me very little grief . ( touch wood)

I've got a 3.0Si Roadster, nice enough car. Ride is a bit of a git though and I'm not a massive fan of the electric PAS.
The E85/86 are just great looking cars, still look so modern IMO.
I think for me, E92/93 M3 is probably the way to go next.

Fair enough. Also, in response to earlier. I confess I was being a bit blaise about handing the Cerbera. You do definitely still need thorn proof gloves on until you've learnt its language and don't ever hit ice or gravel in it when under power
The difference was once you've learnt it you can rely on it. It gives you the confidence to enter corners hard. In the Z4M you have to leave a bigger 'what if' margin.
Lastly as someone else said above the 90% rule is probably more accurate. There is a 10% place the Z4MC could access than a regular 3.0Si could never go.
I remember once going to accelerate for an overtake, realising quickly I needed more power (because the guy put his foot down) and so down changing. The clutch engaged flicking the needle to 7000rpm and the last 900rpm was just enough to get me past the length of the French X5 with the scream of an engine far too exotic to be wearing a BMW badge before I grabbed the next gear and pulled in. The memory remains etched

I had a lovely Interlagos blue one for a couple of years.
I did the CDV delete, but still couldn’t get on with the gearbox. The suspension was also awful. Far too hard and crashy for anything other than track. I wish I’d stayed in my Z3MC instead, which was infinitely more useable and fun on normal roads.

I had an Imola red 56plate z4mc with champagne nappa leather many moons ago, initially loved it but as time went on it was too uncomfortable to be used everyday and also we only had on street parking. Eventually traded it in for an M6 Convertible and moved.cerb4.5lee said:

I think some people may be put off with the £570/year road tax.
For those getting into an "entry level" sports car and stretching finances to get there, surely the tax issue has to play on your mind?
Maybe just me.........
Tax on my 370Z is that amount and I find it annoying and a waste of money to be fair. For those getting into an "entry level" sports car and stretching finances to get there, surely the tax issue has to play on your mind?

When I had my Z4M it also annoyed me so I thought that I may as well get a V8 engine in the same tax bracket...and I swapped it for a V8 M3.
I think you make a good point and I'm guessing that it will put a few off.
I owned an Imola coupe for 5 years and ran it as a daily for 3 of those. It was the single best car I've ever owned; astonishing engine, fabulous looking, great to drive and absolutely bulletproof reliability. It needed nothing but service items and consumables in the time I had it.
I never found the gearbox to be an issue. It can be recalcitrant when cold and isn't the slickest when warm, but it has a character that suits the rest of the car. The shorter ZHP gear knob is also a very worthwhile upgrade.
As others have mentioned, Eibach springs improve the ride as well as the looks. Couple this with an M3 CSL geo setup and the differences are stark. They run a lot of toe-in as standard so the rear feels particularly locked down. Dial this out and you have something far more playful. Also, enabling the M Dynamic mode in DSC module allows you to have a lot of fun whilst keeping a safety net in place.
I had Supersprint back boxes which were far too loud for daily use but great for the weekend. I also fitted the Evlove Eventuri intake which was well worth it. The engine in this car was just so special; the combo of induction and exhaust noise was awesome.
