A sportscar shouldn’t have...
Discussion
There’s a very nice 911 GTS parked outside my office (not mine I hasten to add). When I walked past I noticed it has headlamp washers. I know they were compulsory for HID headlamps but are not for LED and it got me thinking... A sportscar really shouldn’t have headlamp washers...
What other trinkets do manufacturers fit that, perhaps, could be missed off a sportscar

An expensive hi-fi system ?
You bought the car because it's a 'sports' car, to drive and experience it's handling/performance and, most importantly the sound of the engine
Just seems a waste of money plus extra weight.
Sure have a standard one, but more than that, I've never really seen the point ....

Power assisted steering. Offered up as a rule of thumb.
I get that power steering isn't always bad and unassisted steering isn't always good, and most modern sportscars are heavy enough, and have enough grip at the front, that they can't do without it.
And yes, I know that adding power steering transformed the Esprit Turbo.
And yes, I know that the Mk 1 MX5 was better with power steering, because the manual rack they used was slow and still managed to mask the road feel.
But if you started out designing your sportscar with one of your targets being it doesn't need power assistance, you'd end up with something that's light, nimble, and responsive. If you do it right.
Basically, my ideal sportscar is a Lotus Elise...

Not necessarily true. If it has LED lamps that have >2000lm output then washers are still mandated. What other trinkets do manufacturers fit that, perhaps, could be missed off a sportscar
The rule has nothing to do with HID v LED, it is only based on the light output these days. (Actually most LED systems are <2000lm and most HID systems were >2000lm).
I like the premium stereo in mine. Thing is, if we take everything out then yes it is more sporting but is beginning to become something else. Perhaps it's getting on to be a track car? For the road, potential daily use, creature comforts are nice. Heated seats, stereo, etc... all good IMO.

Unnecessary weight?
But I think legally required if the car has Xenons/HIDs? Something like that.LeoSayer said:

A lard-ass kerbweight
That's about it in my opinion.Another one for me which most people will disagree with - "a turbo".
