Chiron Noire is 'the ultimate GT'

Pair of new special editions pay homage to La Voiture Noire Type 57

Remember March? Sometimes hard to, given how quickly time moves in the automotive world, but that was when Bugatti revealed its reimagined ‘La Voiture Noire’ to the world. The most expensive new car ever made, the €11m one-off was modestly proclaimed to be “another pinnacle in the history of the automobile.” Now, for those more willing to spend a few million than a dozen, Bugatti has once again sought inspiration from the Type 57 SC Atlantic for these ‘Chiron Noire’ special editions.

See, funnily enough, quite a few showed some interest in the Geneva car; to appease those customers, both the new Chiron Noire Sportive and Noire Elegance take some cues from La Voiture. Specifically, the black ones.

To identify the two, the Noire Elegance is the car in exposed carbon while the Noire Sportive has a matt black finish to the panels. Fairly understandably, Bugatti says the former model has a “focus on elegance”, with the latter is said to boast “sporty style”.

Those who opt for the elegant option will find a new design of Bugatti grille (with the solid silver badge in the middle) and wheels, plus accents in either carbon or black for the calipers, mirrors and, er, the entire interior. Apparently an ‘inner signature line’ of aluminium is there to break up the black.

For the Sportive, that cabin is said to be “even more dominated by black”, which extends to black embroidery on black leather, black rotary knobs, black on every button and the steering wheel. Does what it says on the tin, the Chiron Noire Sportive.

Both are, of course, powered by the Chiron’s 1,500hp 8.0-litre W16, with existing Chiron Sport customers able to upgrade to ‘Chiron Noire’ spec for €100,000. For the actual edition cars, though, just 20 buyers will be asked for three million, with deliveries from Q2 2020. For those that must have a black Chiron right now, however, there’s this one in the PH classifieds - you’ll just have to wait for it to ship from Hong Kong…

There's something about this that's so black, it's like how much more black could this be? And the answer is none. None more black.

I'd say sacre bleu, but fear it would give them the idea for the next limited edition.....

"Noire Elegance is the car in exposed carbon"

Because exposed carbon fibre is elegant. Not childish; elegant

I fail to see how the frequency of its use has any bearing of how functional it could be? Concorde is still a remarkable plane yet it does not fly. Although I'm not sure how you know how many miles per year this car will be used?

It's because they're really good at playing on the insecurities that a lot of the ultra wealthy seem to have. Obviously not everybody likes to show off but for those who do, anything 'standard' is never going to be good enough. They want things that stand out, and are prepared to, essentially, be fleeced by the manufacturers for their exclusivity. (Correct me if I'm wrong, but given the customisation options Bugatti already offer, wouldn't it be entirely possible to spec your Chiron so it's visually identical to any of the special editions? Yes it might be missing a little plaque or whatever, but who would ever know?)

Alfa phoned to say the 159 is still a registered design if Bugatti would like to but the front bumpers.

I know, this always boggles me. Even if I was a billionaire I would not buy all this special edition nonsense. Total waste of time and money.

For you maybe. For others... well, that's for them to decide. Personally it's not a waste of time to me.
