I'd like a go in this to see how it compares to my F56 Cooper S, the performance figures are pretty much identical. It makes me think that MINI should be getting more performance out of it with it being a 2 litre turbo engine against the 1.6 litre turbo in this.

I guess that the Cooper S is strangled deliberately because of the JCW version though.
The F56 uses a BMW engine... Its the R56 generation MINI that shared its engine with the Pug family.

Yes I know that cheers, and it was one of the main reasons why the F56 appealed to me. I just would expect a 2 litre turbo engine to have more power than a 1.6 Litre turbo engine like this is.

3½ years old and was £23k retail new. So £10k sounds about right, rather than being a scandalous bargain. Also this one hasn't been taxed since Sept, so perhaps they're not flying off the shelves and there's further negotiation to be done...

Still, I like that this exists as an option and looks pretty good to my eye as well. Reckon it'll be somewhat of a sleeper out on the road too, given the average motorist isn't really expecting a 208 to have any kind of decent performance!

I also really like that it has a LSD and I'd love one of those in the Mini. These certainly appeal to me for sure.

Are these THP / Prince engines still as problematic as the earlier units, or had they sorted them by this point? A mate bought a 2007 Cooper S at 3 yrs old, and had endless issues with the engine once it got past about 40,000 miles. Coking up, HPFP failure, two separate timing chain issues and generally running like a bag of spanners more often than not, despite being religiously serviced. Lousy engine.

Yip, I can get 48 from my (tuned) ST so no doubt it is possible. Why you'd want to though......?

Agree it is a bit of a marketing disaster this one. So instead of getting the car right to start with, or making the enhancements standard as part of a refresh, they continued to sell the lacklustre normal GTI next to this one and called it the "GTI Prestige". Which is the non-Peugeot Sport GTI sporty hatchback by Peugeot (not Peugeot Sport).

Mine has done 75,000 miles, had two pencil coils go down and front suspension knocks. All fixed under warranty.

Because that marks it out as the good one, not just a regular (and bit ordinary) 208 GTI nerd

Matt
So by implication, they are saying normal Peugeots are a bit st? smile

Nice capable motor and with a stock LSD. Makes a refreshing change from the plethora of Fiestas lurking about.

In the Mini the turbo engines in the "Cooper S" changed in (I think?) late 2009 from the N14 engine to the N18 engine which was slightly more powerful and a lot more reliable. I would expect that Pug changed over at roughly the same time?

Without a doubt the best hot hatch in recent years. My brother has a new Fiesta ST and my the 208 BPS is a better all-rounder and in Power Orange a better looking car in my eyes too.

I’ve had a few Pug GTIs and this is the best and last one.

Reminds me of a combination of our old R56 Cooper S and my 205 1.9 GTI.

I've got the apparently (doubt many commenting have actually driven one) st GTI prestige. I bought it as I wanted a small hot hatch without the chav stigma of many of the other ones models mentioned, which I see with blacked out windows and aftermarket exhausts driven around these parts.

It's fast enough, brakes very well, has good visibility, interior ok, parcel shelf rattles a bit and I think a handsome little car.

I actually take it on many trips over the m235i I have, which incidentally rattles just as much.

BMW engine is simply in a lower state of tune, they remap to nearly 300bhp with no hardware mods.

Had one of these and a Fiesta St.
Much preferred the 208.
Interior of the 208 was much better especially nice touches e.g the optional full length glass roof and changeable ambient lighting.

Really like these... and may go on the shortlist for my next car having had very good memories in the 90s of a series of fast Peugeot’s.

Biggest problem, though, is the well documented odd position of the dashboard... above the steering wheel.

Can any actual owners or past owners tell me how weird this is in real life over the longer term? How long does it take to get used to it? It looks so unusual to me and I can imagine the steering wheel completely obscuring the speedometer and rev counter... also does the high dash have a negative impact on the view out of the windscreen?

Basics, I know, but ....
