Really looking forwards to this - despite knowing it's probably the last one the best Bond actor, Daniel Craig, will be in. Also sad that it’s likely to be the last one that won’t be devastated by the PC brigade.

Love that people are complaining the film is woke- it hasn’t even been released yet how would you know what’s in it?

Love that people are whining about sjw’s more than the sjw’s and can’t spot the irony.

"Aston Martin hasn't had 007 all to itself - Ford, GM, BMW, Bentley, Audi, Rolls-Royce and Mercedes-Benz have all enjoyed screen time in one form or another; Toyota even went to the trouble of removing the roof from the 2000GT so that Connery could fit behind the wheel..."

Apparently there was a Lotus used once or twice, too.
Maybe even thrice; one blew up in "For Your Eyes Only" and was promptly replaced (There might've been a yellow 2CV in between)

There's this thing called "the news" - you should try it sometime, it makes for an interesting read... And before you say it, the films I mentioned below were known to be sjw filled BEFORE release.

Given the fact that almost every single franchise Hollywood has brought back recently (Charlie's Angels, Ghostbusters, Oceans 8 etc etc etc) has featured some kind of sjw nod, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to be able to take an educated guess where this will end up.

Clearly you didn't. The one with gadgets in Skyfall is a different one. And if it were the same, why would Q branch fit gadgets to a 50 year old car? (Haven't watched Skyfall in a while but IIRC there was a convoluted reason as to why Bond had an antique Q car)

The one in Skyfall was destroyed too, so this is yet another different DB5 with gadgets. It's a bit bloody far fetched.

Agree on excessive gadgets in st old cars.

Time to move on.

Obviously trying to sell it on nostalgia rather than the quality of the story and characters etc.

Not a good sign.

Bond won the Aston Martin DB5 by beating Alex Dimitrios in a Texas Hold ‘Em poker game in the film Casino Royale.

I'm not convinced either way yet, so would have to see it. The "news" (if you can call it that) has mostly been jumping on the black female 007 codename thing but playing it like she's the new James Bond.

Plus Barbara Broccoli is against there being a female Bond.

I don't see a 007 codename woman being out of character for the series. There's been plenty of strong women in the James Bond series in the past anyway, so I'd hold out to see if it's been blown out of proportion.

The DB5 in Skyfall was rebuilt and is the same one that appears in Spectre.

You know that this is a movie and not a documentary, right?

It's called entertainment. Relax and enjoy it.

I don't understand why some people can't watch a movie without picking it apart.

Just be happy it's got lot's of British built cars.

I remember reading the media scaremongering about 007 becoming Miss James Bond, and on first glance I believed it when the lady said "Commander Bond" - to me, that's no longer 00 status.

I don't really want to watch a James Bond movie where the lead character isn't a James. Hopefully this is just the media getting it wrong, but I have a horrible suspicion that because everything's "woke" and films are tanking because females are being pushed into roles unexpectedly, this will follow suit.

Note - I haven't got anything against female leads, but there's a limit to what you can do. In the same way nobody would remake Charlie's Angels or the Spice Girls movie with all male characters, why destroy the 66-year legacy of one of the biggest series coming out of the UK?

Personally I think the woke developers have missed a trick here. Make a 007 film with James Bond as the lead character, but co-develop a 006 character - the female version. Give her a name, an identity, a character. Release the film at the same time, and intertwine the stories. They both come out winners, the woke people get their little movement and the general public get their normal 007 film. Life continues as normal, and if the 006 series tanks, it can be quietly retired with no damage to the brand (e.g. the quiet dumping of the all-female Ghostbusters that flopped).

Did you read any of the text you quoted?
1) I'm fairly certain Bond, Q, or M mentions it's a different car. After wracking my brain, I think they explained its origin in Spectre to 'close' that plot hole.
2) For it to be the same car, it either already had Q branch gadgets installed or Q branch retrospectively installed gadgets on a car that was virtually 50 years old. Either explanation is clearly bks - so we're left with answer 1; it's a different car.

You're probably right about that plotline, I only saw Spectre once so I'm a bit hazy. As with the gadgets, it's pretty implausible. An outdated car that was blown to pieces and Q branch have nothing better to do than rebuild it? rolleyes

Because it's so very incongruous that it grates (much like the Vanquish/Vanish idiocy in Die Another Day). You really don't need to think very hard to wonder why Bond would have a 1960s gadget in the 2010s. And it's totally unnecessary to have a DB5 in every bloody movie.

I get it. The thing is that Casino Royale wasn't formulaic. After the horrible later Brosnan movies it was a breath of fresh air that took the franchise in a different direction. And it still got bums on seats. But ever since CR, the writers/producers seem to have been moving back to those bad old days.
I hope I'm wrong and this will be the sort of gritty Bond movie that portrays him as the flawed, troubled hero that CR set up. I fear I'll be disappointed. Again.

He's been referred to as Commander Bond in most of them at some point way before Daniel Craig appeared.

'Woke' is just the new word for 'politically correct', but is usually used as an epithet, as it has been here

I'm a fully signed-up mung-mean muncher and Guardian reader, but those Dunkirk articles were horrific and James Bond films do not need to be PC - they should be pure escapism

Gadgets, guns, girls, astons, pretending the british empire is still a thing, drinking cocktails that actually taste like arse and not wincing as you do so, single-entendre character names, terrible puns that make 12 year old boys titter etc.. Adding in some Bourne-style realism was a good addition for Daniel Craig's first outings, but the last couple have felt like a long episode of spooks

I loved watching Bond films as a kid and the franchise still holds a special place - would love for that to be the same for my kids

This trailer looks promising though
