Yeah I’ve read it again and it’s you that clearly didn’t understand the post you were quoting, there was nothing racist I could see.

The post said ‘...Popular in China/with those awaiting corrective eye surgery...’ which clearly reads as “popular in China” (not racist at all, the tastes of the China market are heavily influencing global car design due to the size of the market) slash “with those awaiting corrective eye surgery” suggesting it could only be liked by someone who does not have good eyesight. Slightly crass joke on par with ‘should have gone to spec savers’ adverts, but again, it’s not racist.

Sorry to pick a point with this, but using the term racist incorrectly signifies you don’t understand what the world actually means.
Omg, yes how wrong am I. I sincerely apologise and yes the Chinese really do need their corrective eye surgery.
Maybe you can teach me what the world actually mean. I’ll pay for the lesson.

TBF, you’ve misread the use of syntax - a “/“ connotes alternatives, not a conjunctive - if the poster had said “(ie those awaiting corrective eye surgery)” then there’d clearly be racist overtones. But they didn’t.

Anyway, the car’s a f*cking abomination.

I still don’t think you get it hehe

The guy was talking about two separate groups of people, the Chinese market and people with poor vision smile

I quite like it and found myself looking at GLE coupe things in the classifieds. I like the fact everyone else hates it but their depreciation isn't anywhere near substantial enough for me to get an itchy wallet at the moment even so I think they're definitely going on the watch list.

It's getting to be quite a long list at the moment.

A7
S8
FF RR
GLE coupe
s500 coupe
Macan

Me, I like a bargain so which ever one gives most bang for buck when "shiny new toy syndrome" reaches peak will be what I go for. Having said that the list is always fluid.

I'd be happy with one of these in normal SUV guise, but I'm not as keen on the Coupe version though.

I'd be all over this if it were also a convertible and estate. And saloon. And hatchback,

Quite like the shape of it, but the huge basking shark-esque front grille is overkill. Does it really need all that air for cooling?
Like the interior, seems classy a la S-class. Not sure if i would want to drive this tank into an average UK car park, certainly not a multi storey one.

Not very PH opinion but I think the original X6 the Urus and the Cayenne Coupe look alright, the more recent efforts from BMW & Merc really aren't good.
Plus the Q8 minus the two tone dog muzzle design which looks odd.

The GLE coupe thing is absolutely hideous. I applaud the use of egregious as a descriptive term.

However, the interior is the quite as lovely as the exterior is ghastly

OMG I thought German car styling couldn't get worse but they've outdone themselves again frown

Some of these ridiculous vehicles make me laugh when I see them on the road, after all who would be stupid enough to buy one and want to be seen in it?

I had no idea that my original comment could have been understood as a racist comment. I was referring to two groups- 1. The massive Chinese market which I understand to like brash, over the top, hulking efforts like this, and 2. People like me (but not me) who need corrective eye surgery, and therefore maybe didn’t notice that’s it’s mind blowingly ugly, aesthetically defective etc.

Someone pointed out- our small island is no longer providing the persona that cars are being designed for. That’s life/capitalism. Not the end of the world but neither is it a good thing in my (defective) eyes. Would love PH to respond to the question about what PH stands for these days? What’s it here to do?

You can guess I liked it better in the “good old days”.

At least you can’t see the exterior while you’re driving it.
No, it’s just everyone else who is subjected to it! What an awful looking car - it almost makes the X6 look nice. Almost.

Is there any niche that’s untapped?

Actually how about an AMG version of the Sprinter? Makes about as much sense as this monstrosity.

Remember when Mercedes were refined, classy and restrained. Clearly I’m getting old. Can’t help but think these sort of things are a wrong turn. Think what will happen when Greta’s generation get into power, it’s time to get a bit more sensible before others do it for us...

I think that would be quite cool - you could race the oxidation.

Looks aside, it is likely a good and very capable car.
