Would have been more interesting to only allow one entry per manufacturer.

So Renaults best, up against Fords best, against VW's best.

Otherwise its just the 'Renault show'.
Maybe another time, but this is Best Hot Hatch, not Best Hot Hatch Manufacturer.
No this is best hot hatch in some peoples opinion. Most voting won't have driven all of them, so its pointless.
But not pointless enough for you to give this thread a miss?

Surely signifance of the Golf GTI was the proposition of being a practical 'performance' car in it's day; hence the list of nominations needs to include a Tesla

hehe

Renault Sport rightly deserve to dominate this.

Last chance to cast your vote today! Can't believe that after 500+ votes 2nd and 4th place are currently tied.

I suspect in the 4th Plaçe tie it may be down to more people being exposed to/have driven an M135i/M140i than a 172 Cup

2nd Place I reckon it’s down to mag reputation for the Megane ( unless the 100 or so owners were particularly generous in loaning them out .....you’d think many multiples more would’ve driven the EP3 )

From what I have read, an entire thread was devoted to asking for suggestions (to be voted upon by a second/this thread) and discussing the definition as per the title.

The Tesla was discussed on there, as were a lot of other innovative cars.

Its worth a read by anyone who is conflicted, or confused by the line up.

There is definitely some logic in that analysis. Far more 135/140's were sold than 172Cups (Discounting all other 172/182 derivatives). Potentially more Civics as well.

If it was "best hot hatch engine & running gear of the 21st century" - then yes, imo the EP3 should win.

Otherwise? It'll be a travesty if the EP3 comes anywhere in the top 3, imo - and that's coming from a big Honda fan and a previous EP3 owner.

Can't believe a Megane 265 or 275 isn't in there, but there you go!

Yes I think only just over 100 R26Rs were sold here so I guess not many will have driven one - however, they did get great reviews in most mags despite the compromises

...tell me about it, when i told my one, it was not best pleased...I shudder to think what it will do to any of the cars on the list should it meet one at Brans hatch on Monday.

It's hard to define best so I voted for the one I would most like to own and that is the Alfa.

Me too especially being an Italophile but the FCA group haven't really had a proper hot hatch in the 21st Century. Both the Grande Punto and 500 Abarth's aren't the hottest and the Giulietta not the most exciting. Shame the Alfa is at the back of the field.

The Giulietta Veloce is much better than most people think.

Same objection would apply if it was one entry per manufacturer too.
