I've driven whilst drunk, and driven whilst stoned. Tbh, you can function far better when stoned than you can when you're drunk. You have a lot more control of your body, although driving whilst drunk is way more fun.

What does ‘way worse’ mean?

Someone suffering from alcoholism is in some way inferior to you?

God forbid you ever get a mental health or physical problem.

Anyone suffering from addiction be it alcohol or cannabis can be just as much a victim of it as those that are sometimes hurt by being around that person.
Well, lets see.

I suffer from chronic pain, have been in and out wheelchairs between surgeries for the last decade. Have had a serious opiod addiction prescribed to me that i fought to get off of and have been free of that for over 5 years thank god, oh an i get depression when it decides to appear. Why did you read that i think alcoholics are somehow inferior? I was originally responding to your comment that you think smokers are losers? I lived with an alcoholic for a long time, i saw the damage addiction did in our house. Only one of these things you can freely buy in a shop.
No, I never said anything about smokers or anyone being a loser.

YOU said you consider alcoholics are ‘way worse’.

Way worse than what? In what way has anyone with an alcohol problem got anything to do with smoking cannabis. There will also be plenty of people who drink drive who are not alcoholics.

Anyway, congratulations you win top trumps victim card.

While I can’t say that I recall noticing the smell from inside my car, you do certainly see people in their cars or vans in the morning having a smoke. When I was younger you’d see that in parts of South London and Bayswater with the West Indians but it’s certainly pan cultural and non geographic these days.

Probably the aspect which has struck me more though as societies always evolve and the law has been loosened so it’s hardly surprising that more users are being more overt in their consumption is the change in the smell. It’s not often the waft of grass or resin but the acrid smell of skunk or whatever the new substances are called. When you feel that stuff between your fingers it even feels gritty. It really smells and looks like quite toxic stuff.

Ah. You're talking just specifically about people who smoke cannabis while driving to work in the morning.

Fair enough. Although it's a pretty niche group to be really upset about.
It is niche. Hence my first post on the matter alluding to the probability that other ‘driving under the influence’ issues are larger. It’s also not something I’m really upset about, I just consider them losers.
I don't think you'll get any argument from anyone sensible that driving under the influence (of anything) is a bad thing.

Shame on you, I really do think you're boasting. What if you wiped out parents of children or the children of devoted parents, you are a disgrace.....

I've noticed quite the opposite, driving around Leeds and Harrogate 10 years ago the smell was everywhere, now the laws are stricter in their punishment I'm noticing it less and less on the roads but more and more coming from peoples houses

Yup! Bit old for it now at 50 :-)

Though it's not a suprise - this site is full of hand-wringers / moaners etc. Just the way it is :-( - There are some particularly nasty/vindictive types on here that'll call you all sorts for not agreeing with their moral "levels".

On topic: I don't get the driving WHILST smoking, which has become more and more common. You are begging to get nicked. A good friend of mine, who is in a very senior position with a very sweet and lucrative job in the TV industry (so no "loser" here) always skins a up a few for a long drive. He smokes so much he rarely actually seems stoned at all.

For those that don't know - people have been driving AFTER smoking for ever, and particularly, since drink driving laws started being enforced in the 80's - as it was very hard to get nicked for it. You have been sharing the roads with a LOT of stone drivers. They are quite hard to spot, other than often doing a good 10 mph under the speed limit as everything seems a little faster.

The stench you smell now is mainly down to the race for the stinkiest (and therefore, strongest) weed possible. The current young generation rate weed on how "dank" it smells, not how good it might make them feel (or not). It's all a bit crap really. No wonder they are havign so many mental health problems.

Technically, you quoted my exact words, got terribly confused and then started lobbing punches at Flumpo. wink

absolutley, we been sharing the roads with stoned drivers for years, it's just since the last 10 or so years the younger generation think It's the THC content in they're weed that matters and that's why your smelling it everywhere (cos skunk is called that for a reason!) you generally drive slower and more aware of your surroundings (again I'm not condoning anything illegal) and as a 45 year old dad I'm struggling to remember those fun days! Just remember trying to build one while driving being harder than driving stoned ; )
