I noticed this when catching up to a battered E46 on the M18, at about 6am. Young bloke driving, window slightly down, at a steady 56mph (are stoners into hypermiling?), and whatever he was smoking was strong enough that I could smell it inside my own car at 70mph, from around 100 yards behind...

Last year I was driving down the M1 and it was congested as per usual. There was a lot of 30-50mph stunted driving in waves, although we never came to a crawl as such. All of a sudden a really powerful smell of weed hit me. This hung around for 5 minutes until traffic cleared up and I got alongside the car that was in front of me. In the driver's seat was a lass in her 20's, smoking the last of her spliff down to the roach.

It really surprised me. Despite moving along and keeping a reasonable distance the smell made its way from her car to mine and smell as strongly as it did. If I'd been a copper there'd have been no getting away with it. Still, she didn't give me any road rage as I waved at her and pinched my nose.

Is this a thread for dogs?
I can smell virtually nothing but car when I’m driving.

I was just saying this to my wife yesterday. If I walk the dog (suburban area) at fiveish in the afternoon, In a half hour period, I can pick probably ten cars which smell green. Plus several pedestrians.

On the subject of cannabis, surely with all the genetic stuff going on they can 'edit' out the smell? Seems a no brainer to me if its possible.
The smell is what sells it. no smell = bad weed.

Yes, I've noticed it more often than before. Stinks and totally antisocial.

A couple of times over the last year. It's fairly pungent.

As a biker, on the morning commute whilst filtering, you can smell it quite distinctly whilst filtering. Normally 3-4 cars per day on my 10 mile commute.

Street Weed is way stronger than it may or may not have been when I was a Yoof, and yes it's not that unusual to catch a whiff outside.

I assume that these are regular smokers given that a car is not the usual place for a casual smoke, ditto walking along the pavement, so given that I'm really surprised that these people don't understand the negative effects it has if smoking regularly. Moderate alcohol consumption is far better IMO, at least in terms of short-term life impact. Having said that I don't mind too much about the smoking it and driving - I'm more concerned about the burgeoning criminal network supporting the habit.

It has, and it isn’t all weed I think. Sometimes you get a strong smell of it in the absence of anyone else being around. Some plants smell like it, moss phlox for example.

Also can be caused by some electrical goods when new, some sort of property of the insulation, apparently.

Agreed.

We have an occasional problem with it in our properties. Generally speaking it is an indicator that we have a problem occupier.

I don’t think that weed smoker = idiot. I think conspicuous weed smoking is the sign of someone whose values are adrift.

Yep, whenever I'm out in the car all I can smell is ganja. It's strange, as it seems to happen even when there's nobody else around...

If he was doing 56mph how were you following behind him at 70mph? confused
