I notice it... sometimes even on the morning commute.

Just like any addictive substance there will be those who take it in moderation and those who have a serious problem (go to Wetherspoons at breakfast time and see how many people are drinking alcohol!). I have the "pleasure" of living next door to a family with three sons in their 20s and 30s who smoke it constantly... I'm not so fussed when it's just them but they smoke it around their young children, which is both exposing the kids to the active substances as well as normalising the activity.

Bit of an aside, but back in the 90s my mum (primary school teacher, now retired) was giving a class of 8 year olds a talk on drugs. She asked "can anyone tell me where drug addicts get their drugs from?". One of the children put up his hand and said "My dad gets his drugs from a man called David."

Notice it a lot around the centre of Leeds. It's like it's legal, there's so little fear of being caught.

hehe
Similarly noticing it around a number of our dog walking spots, clearly folks sans dog are driving somewhere out of the way, having a toot, and then driving away. Presumably hoping to avoid the car stinking of weed, ignoring I guess that they carry the whiff.

Can't say have particularly noticed it while driving, maybe the stink of wet dog and farts in the car has a masking effect.

Yes, and like the OP I notice it from cars and vans in traffic. Some people are so open about it, they really don't give a fk!!

I was cycling through Bampton In Devon and following a corsa I could smell cannabis fairly strong too. It was two young girls in the car.

Yes, and for some reason it is almost always wafting out of an A3.

Glad it isn't just me, a simple soul from the provinces , as I am increasingly getting great wafts of cannabis smell . But nowhere worse than the veritable fog I encountered outside the hotel at Brands Hatch a few months ago.

Caught up, faster traffic passing to my right, slowed to match his speed so as not to rear end him until safe to overtake.

Could smell what he was smoking as I was catching up to him.

That ok, or should I supply dashcam footage and a witness statement?

Yup, I live in a nice area and there is often the smell

I first thought it was vaping, but the smell wouldn’t carry as well and I don’t smell other flavours

Often smell it from transit vans and old knackered estate cars en route to building sort of work

Was a fella in the park behind my house smoking it

Have a foot path up the side of our gaf, work at home and smell it most days, eventually worked out it was the lad who works at our local CO op, he has a smoke on way to work, can often work out his shift pattern based on when I smell it

Totally agree with OP.... in 35 years of commuting Kent/Surrey/London by motorcycle I’ve gone from occasionally smelling weed in the High St, to getting wafts in traffic every 3-5 minutes. Scares the life out of me and totally reinforces my feelings that my fellow motorists are either out to get me or oblivious to everything and everyone
That^^.

It's absolutely everywhere and probably explains a lot of people's apparently oblivious driving.

It's got to the point where it's socially accepted now I think. I know plenty of people who smoke on a day to day basis. I don't think the police bother with it anymore and I don't really expect them too unless there's a clear issue.

I'm not sure how I feel about people driving around smoking weed. Just like alcohol there's people like me who happily and often have a pint and a bag of crisps after a walk and then drive home. And there's people who have 5 pints and drive, putting everyone around them at risk. I would expect the same goes for cannabis. I know people who could and do smoke on their morning commute to work. Where's if I had a joint on my way to work I wouldn't actually get to work. I don't smoke weed at all for the record.

Well you say that, but let me elaborate. amongst my close friends who are all hard working, morally sound, focused and healthy people. Most own successful businesses or have very good jobs, one's actually a police officer. My wider circle of friends include tradesman, media industry types, basically no scallywags. Yet i can promise, that I have for quite some years, never seen any hint of cannabis being classed as a taboo or socially unacceptable amongst my friends. And what's probably the most notable point in that, is that only about a third of them actually regularly consume cannabis.

Obviously, just as walking down the street swigging a can of lager is not socially acceptable yet alcohol clearly is. The same should be applied to cannabis i suppose.

Can’t say I have noticed that smell where I am, but I seem to be susceptible to the horrid smell of diesel crap, my old Lexus IS250 had a most wonderful feature of an auto re-circulation feature so using a sensor in the front it monitored all that crap and put the A/C into recirculate mode when any diesels were present, which was quite frequently needless to say. Whenever I am in built up areas I just use recirculate, I don’t want to inhale diesel or any other crap thank you. On open roads I use the outside air

Driving under any influence (alcohol or drugs ) is wrong and stupid. I don't understand it, many moons ago when I used to smoke it, good quality stuff as well, I smoked it in social occasions, listened to music, chat and then raid the pantry after. I dont' understand why you need to smoke a joint on your own while driving, I really don't.
