911 Carrera -> GT3 -> GT3RS
570S -> 600LT -> 620R

Not so different surely?
but it's not that simple !

540C, 570S, 570S Spider, 570 track pack, 570 GT, 600LT, 600 LT Spider, and now the 620R

all have the same engine, chassis etc ! and all current cars !!! and some other GT sports series also just called the NEW GT again with 620PS !!!

the GT3 is: GT3, GT3 touring or GT3 RS, I guess there is now a GT3 RS WP but that's more to do with the petrol filter issues needing to be added.

570 track pack is more a trim level, so hardly worth counting. The spider is simply a convertible....something the 911 also has. The 570C and GT....are they still going? LT/spider are just a little more driver focussed to the 570S and a convertible version....so like a GT3 RS and a convertible one (which Porsche don't offer - but there's a good reason it's made, carbon tub means the McLaren has that advantage).

If you're being really nitpicky then you'd say 911 Carrera, C2S, C4S, turbo, GT3, GT3 RS, GT2 RS plus cab versions of the C2, C2S, C4S, turbo, then you have the targa versions as well.

I don't see the issue.....They have, in reality, a 570S and a spider, a slightly more hardcore version in the 600LT in coupe and spider, and then a more hardcore version in the 620RS.....no worse than Porsche by any means.

Again, not seeing the difference to the Porsche lineup that you are making the comparison with

The 5xx variants (540, 570, spider etc) are equivalent to cars in the Carrera range - Carrera RWD, 4S, cabrio, speedster etc etc
The 600LT is the GT3 equivalent
The 620R is the GT3RS equivalent

The 720, GT, Senna are in a different "class" according the McLaren hierarchy. Yes I know they all share the same tub and engine however they are separated out into different classes - Sports, Super and Ultimate

Totally agree with this. McLaren are copying Porsche with all these models and why not, it's worked for ze Germans. Most people with a life don't know the difference between 993,996,991 and 986,987,981 etc etc but because Porsche have been around for yonks it's accepted and we mostly understand it.

I do think McLaren need to cool their jets for a while and sort out thier marketing to make their brand message clearer, but we can't slate them for bringing out new and exciting cars, just like Porsche do, every other week.

Great power to weight.

Sounds an interesting car.

Kick in the nuts for 600 and 720 owners though. Think I just heard an immediate recurring £30k price crash on these. Or is it the owners who bought new topping themselves.

Christmas sales come early.
Why? Is it a kick in the nuts to GT3 owners when Porsche release the GT3RS?

And 720S is a totally different type of car to a track day special with coil overs etc
The difference is a GT3 RS is a given and has been for the last c 10+ years which always follows around 1 year after the GT3.

Porsche have a regular and established timeline for their models which is clearly understood by their dealers and most importantly their regular GT customers.

This in turn supports the branding and rock solid residuals.

McLaren take note.

Own a McLaren , and agree with a-lot of these comments, to many new models being bought out affecting residual values.
The only upside, is the new model look similar to my 570GT, it still looks up to date , however it doesn’t inspire me to trade my car in for another McLaren.

I personally like it

Surely though they’ve just fitted a 12c engine and quickly come up with a “newer” model

Anyone know the reliability of this latest iteration of the V8 TT engine they use in everything? We all know the 12c was hideously unreliable... how about the newer ones?

I'm sure it's going to be a great car but I feel that due to the 600LT they should have left the Launch until latter next year.

The 600LT release was 1.5 years ago and the Sport series is going to be replaced with a new model soon, so not sure they need to delay release of the R

In the examples given above, Porsche release the RS model 1 year after the GT3 so seems reasonable if everyone thinks Porsche is the benchmark for roll outs.

It isn't a new model, its the track focused version of your car / the current Sport Series. A Sport Series replacement is in development and will be unveiled maybe next year. That will look different to your model.

Almost likely to be very last of the limited Sports Series McLarens - now even more likeable at £155,000.

How so?

Anyway. No dog in this fight, can’t afford one hardly ever seen any either. But just lately I’ve seen a few, saw one in Leeds today. Everyone has looked fantastic to these eyes. Look better to me than Mid engine F cars.

I may be chatting complete st here so put me straight if I am but don’t McLaren have a fairly strict policy on track day use and servicing/warranty claims? Something like you have to have it checked over by a dealer before and after a track day to retain your factory warranty? If so will that still apply to this? I regularly spank my Porsche GT cars whenever I feel like it without any additional dealer visits.
