As I recall, one of the issues with the original fan cars was that they vacuumed up dust, gravel and sundry other detritus and sprayed it at following traffic. Would help to reduce tailgating..........
I've first hand experience being on the receiving end of a McLaren 12C overtake, and the amount of gravel the passive diffuser picked up and threw at me was immense. God knows what this would be like.

The Chaparral 2J of 1970 begs to differ.
Rod Hall was way ahead of his time: use of wind tunnel, grp monocoque, automatic transmission to reduce driver fatigue. I love the Chapparal 2D, a very sleek car.

I always regret the fact that there was never an Al Melling powered Gordon Murray chassis.

I always thought they had so much in common.

On the "ground effects on a road car" question, it depends how effective the fan is at keeping the flow clean. If it allows substantial down force to be created at substantially lower speeds than usual, then perhaps it would allow you to take right well-sighted tight B-road corners at ludicrous speed? Perhaps it'll be able to cope with big changes in the volume of air and angle of attack due to crap roads? , Might be a game changer, might be a pipe dream.

No moronic posts saying that the fan 'ruins' it or looks st or some such ignorance? Have I died and woken up on a new planet?

Can't wait to hear more about this. There's a few last hurrah's for the ICE cars in the works, but I wouldn't mind betting this one could be THE one.

He was responsible for much of the aero development in fact, but most of it never got off the ground...

I do hope these get used properly, would be a crying shame if they end up sitting in collections gathering dust.
The owner could always connect some hose up to the fan and blow away the dust. Maybe this was Murray’s thinking all along, knowing the fate of most of these baubles; man is a genius!

GM has been 'interviewing' prospective buyers, making sure they are buying to drive and not make money. He's turned down several enquires from folk that were going to buy as an investment. Last time I spoke to him he was getting close to the 100 buyers he needs to build it. (Who will provide £60 million in deposits).

It'll never happen - hes just making up random numbers and spruiking a product telling everyone he's almost sold out to get some cash to get 'something'off the ground.

100 buyers to get £60m already? So 100 people have already put down £600k each without any firm product from a bloke who hasnt produced what he said he would for last 25 years?

I do hope im wrong but theres no evidence or reassurance this will ever happen and the only thing being produced is a salesmans pitch.

A strong contender for the best shade thrown in the automotive industry.

What a machine. I absolutely would if I could.
Gordon Murray was once asked by a journalist if the F1 was McLaren's answer to the Ferrari F40. After a pause he said: "Hmm, I'm not sure if we've got anyone at McLaren who can weld that badly".

Beautiful and entirely accurate, as anyone who has been properly up close to an F40 will agree.

Rocket.

It's quite amusing seeing all the 'it will never happen' brigade on here. If it weren't for the product and the designer behind it I think it's fair to be cynical but citing due to lack of funds or access to capital is wrong, I think they would have little trouble getting funding for this.

I have absolutely no doubt this car will happen, I can imagine it's heavily over subscribed as £2mill is pocket change to some of the wealthiest car enthusiasts out there, for what will probably be the last of it's type.

Ref the car itself, I love the concept and the engineering but the only thing I am not overly struck on is the fan position, it looks a bit ugly and I think the styling at the moment is a bit too generic, I am hoping the final product will be a bit more adventurous.

GM is a well respected pro, but even so, I would tread with caution. Possibly something from Koenigsegg or Zonda instead would be my preferred option in this space.
That's fair enough. But what Koenigsegg or Pagani offer a high revving NA V12 with a manual gearbox?
NA V12 / manual are not things I get hung up about. If a Zonda is good enough for Lewis Hamilton, then it's about a million times more than enough for me.

No. As I mentioned, he's been flying around the world meeting people to whom £600k is small change and getting a firm commitment from them that they want one. As the F1 has proved, in 10 years time they'll be worth 10 or 20 times as much, so it's a no-brainer to spend the cash.

If you think it's a cost thing for GMD ... take a look at the new premises (currently being built).

https://www.designengine.co.uk/projects/gordon-mur...

As for not producing what he said he would, He's sold the MOTIV.e to Yamaha, and the TVR to Ted Edgar. Both on time and under budget.

Having an opinion based on something as subjective as looks is not ignorance.
Betting on someone with a strong track record of not delivering, THAT is ignorance.
