For those considering the 650S, this video pretty much sums it up. Sometimes I think if the extra outlay for the 720S is worth it. For normal road use, the difference in performance is small. Only when you get into serious licence losing / jail time speeds will you really benefit from the 720S.

On oldie - but Goldie. When I was thinking of where to go next after my V12 Vantage and considering a V12S manual, that was one of the videos that got me into my 650s instead. Especially the bit about then putting the top down and cruising home after a track outing.

I’m no Chris Harris, but interesting how some of his comments reflect my own on this forum, most recently in the 600lt vs 720s thread.

I still have the V12V and enjoy rowing the gears, but with the 650 I’m moving on to left foot braking, which I could never do on a manual, and it’s really a nice substitute.

The 650 is seems to be a bit under rated for some reason...Chris Harris knows a good car, and he has always rated the 650 since it was launched as amongst the very best of supercars.

0-100 in 5.6 seconds is extremely quick, however, to myself that's not its best feature...how easy it drives, how comfy it is, how practicable it is and how much confidence it inspires are all above that.

Currently, i cannot justify the huge extra cost to move into a 720 spider...the 650 spider is, at the moment, the best value supercar available and i really, really love it...its the best car i have ever purchased....that may sound a bit gushing and not how i thought i would ever speak about a 'car', however it is genuinely that good.

Remember this vid alright...and now you can get a 650s for £60-70k less than the Gen 1 RS. Never understood the idea of paying way overs I believe the highest one went for was £270k at my local OPC! Harris is right you really have to compare to higher level machines when overs come into it. Only had my 570s a week and it just feels so much tighter and solid over uneven roads than my previous Vantage did and it doesn't even have the trick suspension of the superseries cars.

that is a great vid....also interesting where prices are today. GT12 by some margin the winner on the £ front. GT3 RS is roughly £100k less and the 650S somewhat cheaper than that.

Spot on. If I had a 650 Spider, I wouldn't buy a 720 Spider. The cost difference versus performance isn't justifiable (certainly not for normal road use). Comfort and practicality are similar and looks are subective. A 720S Spider will cost at least another £100K.

Mantis Green would be my choice

I did toy with mantis green due to the schmee vids.... it really stands out, but went 'safe' and choose volcano orange instead.

However, it is definite that when the time comes the next Mac shall be napier green...it shall be either a 675lt spider or (most likely) a 720spider.

When you turn into McLaren Glasgow and are confronted with green, orange, purple, black and white Mac's in the triangle configuration outside the showroom, it is an amazing scene that somehow makes me think of Muiras from the 70's....just stunning and they really suit wild colours without being 'shoutey'.

I do still love the P1 exterior styling of the 650 and 675...i feel as though that shall turn out as a 'classic' McLaren style...i am still coming around to the 720 design.

The 650 / 675 interior is just a masterpiece in simplicity.

If they were the exact same price, currently i would still pick a 650 spider over a 720 spider...the current £120k delta makes it a no brainer.

However, when you look at this 675LT spider in volcano red...

650s is fast enough of course but there's just something evil and aluring about the 720 even if you're not using all of it's performance
