By way of a gesture I want to return a TomTom GPS device that has in my opinion (and that of many others online) been deliberately rendered useless by the company's own software update.
I'd like to send the device back to them with a pointed note but I cannot find any physical address for these people anywhere. I know that their HQ is somewhere in Holland. I also know they have a UK office because they boast about it on their website, but there are no addresses anywhere – highly ironic given the nature of their business.
Has any PHer ever managed to find a UK address for TomTom?

I had a £40 tomtom iphone App that was very quickly rendered useless in an “update”. Glad to see the back of companies like this, Waze does a better job for free.

Hmm those Whitfield St offices look suitably anonymous/empty, wonder if anyone actually works there?

This is infuriating me now. My job takes me all over the country, and I'm sure I've seen a building with TomTom signage somewhere, but for the life of me I can't picture where.

I'll not sleep now biggrin

Just you, everyone else is too worried about someone using this pic in 2019.

Personally I think that pic goes brilliantly with your post.

Out of interest, why's that? I've got a rubbish phone on a PAYG deal, I'm not interested in using paid-for data to download maps that don't change that often, TomToms are cheap (I bought two recently, £5 for the one that was seen working, £1 for the risky one that also works), enough that I don't need to switch them between cars any more. Maps can be updated if you look around enough. (ETA - I don't do much mileage, I am sure I'd think differently if I needed traffic stuff and so on).

I'm sure there's loads of great stuff on newer sat-nav apps, but not enough for me to upgrade / change everything else.

Google maps is free and it's always uptodate and you just search for your destination rather than hoping the POI is in the nav system and is still uptodate.
I don't know how much data it uses but I'm sure it's negligible.

Most people also have their phone on them 24/7 so if you change car your own personal nav device comes with you.

OK, fair points for those who always have a modern phone on them, and have a data contract.

Modern phone? Even a 5 year old device can run google maps as navigation. And you don’t need a data contract, just use your data when you need the maps three charge 1p per mb

https://ting.com/blog/how-much-data-does-google-ma...

Apparently 5mb per hour so 5p an hour. Not even worth considering using a Tom Tom.

Some OEMs still provide cars with TomTom software, the inbuilt Nav on my car is TomTom for example.

I don't use it, not because I have an issue with it but because I don't seem to be able to use CarPlay and it at the same time, although I haven't tried recently....

Are POIs even still a thing? I just use postcodes for everything...

Like I said, modern phone. smile

I do keep intending to get something a bit newer than my trusty Nokia N75, a smartphone from when Apple had just about thought of the iPhone and Google just did searches. One of these days I'll do it. I guess the downside of not being on a contract is that I just have to buy the phone.

I'm on the 3 123 account, it seems to be the only reasonably priced PAYG thing now, or was when I switched to it. Interesting on the data usage, thanks.

I think they make a lot of money licensing thier data through other outlets like car manufacturers, OEMs etc. There will be lots of opportunities for them in the autonomous vehice market as well.
