Sending you this:
Been eyeing up normal GTRs for a while, but financially I'm wiping my feet on the doormat of 2019 and looking at 2020.
I would have gone for the Merc as it would never have seen a track, or a "proper" driving road. It would've been a treat for it to leave zones 1-4 really. That saying I've not driven a Maclaren so maybe selling it short.
Hope you get to "use it".

While unarguably a fantastic drivers car, I wouldn’t touch another Macca. In 18 months of ownership mine spent 5 back with the dealer for no fewer than 6 significant issues. It then lost a small fortune on sale, noting McLaren weren’t interested in buying it back.
Had a look at the Pro this week at Mercedes Benz World, fantastic in the flesh and by this report, a drivers tool as well. Think I may try out the 5 point star for the first time!

Awesome, I think I'd agree with your choice!
What spec have you gone for?
Hi there What spec have you gone for?
Chicane effect, orange calipers, orange stitching and belts, carbon fibre interior components, carbon fibre buckets, nose lift, reversing camera, B&W stereo, black super lightweight wheels, soft close doors.

The McLaren is the best part of 50k more expensive ( before dealer discounts ), looks like all other McLarens and generally un-exiting whilst the Merc is pure theatre. Easy choice.
Yes they are really dullEdited by A1VDY on Saturday 21st December 22:55

Epic photography for this article. Great job.
This! Amazing pics from a wet day in Wales. I know the Merc looks a bit juvenile with those stripes, and yet if it were my money I would have it in that exact spec. It's fantastic. (I also like the dayglo details on modern Astons so make of that what you will)
I would imagine that whichever of these two you bought, you'd spend every minute of every drive with a huge smile on your face. This really is a wonderful time to be a petrolhead.
And the winner of this comparison test is... The SLS AMG. Merc's top of the line sports car has continued to move downmarket in the last two decades or so and now this GT feels just a bit generic regardless of trim level, especially considering the loss of the NA V8. The SLS, in my mind, was the sweet spot, combining (relative) affordability and specialness in one visceral package.
I would have just gotten the amg gts or the GTR.
The Pro is no faster on the road, definitely worst to live with, and costs considerably more. Had it have the power of say the gt63s, then at least there would be a reason for it, over a GTR.
And about the Mecca, I’d much rather have a 720s over a hardcore 570s. The 720s rides better, is way faster in a straight line and is faster on track even with non-R compound tires.

But this is a limited run in comparison to the normal R.The Pro is no faster on the road, definitely worst to live with, and costs considerably more. Had it have the power of say the gt63s, then at least there would be a reason for it, over a GTR.

I suspect that the difference will only be evident at 9.975/10s, but isn't that the way with anything? Diminishing returns applies (I once paid about a grand for Trek not to paint my racing bike cos liteness).
I'm a muscle car fan, so it is the Merc over the McLaren. Similarly I only ever want front engined Ferraris. But the entry point for that is way more than the AMG. And mid engined I know I'm going into a hedge.
If the BREXIT mists are clearing, an R might be the aim in 2020. Brooking comprehensively nailing my BREXIT position here. Rotter...
