Its a bit odd this journalist reviewing his own stuff thing. Now I like Dan, and the Alpine, but objectivity left the room when the PCP was signed. Journos should avoid drinking too much of the Kool Aid methinks.
I disagree. He put his money where his mouth is, which is more than a lot of people on here do. I think its interesting to read his thoughts on it, it isn't as if he's trying to sell you one. It's a car that a lot of people are interested in, why not hear about it from a ph'er who also happens to write wellSpeedgirl said:

fair point.eyes wide open i'm looking forward to his updates though. objectivity is difficult for humans full stop. Dan will add another perspective through ownership rather than just hopping in and out of press cars and enjoying hospitality. we all know he bought it.
Love it. First drive in my (also "boring" grey) Elise SC was a trip mostly on motorways from London up to Glasgow, followed by a week-long thrash around the west coast of Scotland. Huzzah for sports cars, be they 5k, 15k, 25k, 50k or 150k. They don't all need to be bright purple. Have fun in yours, Dan!
(And fwiw I also wouldn't have the sports exhaust - not only too expensive, but surely the whole point of an Alpine is to deliver great driving finesse, but with the habitability that something like an Elise lacks? I'd be worried a sports exhaust would ruin the magic compromise too much - fine if you live in Wales or Scotland already, but tedious if you want to tour it, or often drive some distance to get to interesting roads.)

Sharing an opinion is a respectable form of journalism. You would appear to be looking for a Judge rather than a journalist.
As for the kool-aid... can you even buy it here? Has anyone seen the ad? Are you just repeating Reddit Memes?

I understand the appeal and cachet of the Alpine, cheaper options for driving satisfaction may exist in the form
of an mx5, but then nobody ever got someone into bed by telling them “I drive a Mazda!”
Great road choice for a first proper drive and I hope it continues to bring you multiple edifying experiences ;-)
Or by telling them I drive an Alpine - not in the UK anyway of an mx5, but then nobody ever got someone into bed by telling them “I drive a Mazda!”

Good vid but the car looks very plain and boring in that colour. Poorly specced.
That’s a bit harsh! The guy’s put his own hard earned cash into the car. Looks stealthy to me. Test drove one earlier this year, felt fabulous. Unfortunately I need a bit more luggage space than it had to offer. It’s on the list though, & in grey too...Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
