Eh you can get parts in switzerland as it has the biggest market for subaru in europe. There are two of those svx's in the town i live in in central switzerland and one of them was bought new in 1992 i am reliably informed by my mechanic who services it. they stand up well to the mileage and the years. Great cars from a great marque.
Absolutely right, there was and probably still is a USA based owners forum with owners cars having done truly starship mileages with no problems. The earlier cars here in the UK needed an additional oil cooler for the transmission as the later cars did have an oil cooler.
Remember too that these cars were made properly with high quality components throughout so wear and tear which is normal for European and British cars just doesn't apply with these.

Here was a luxury coupe, a vehicle aimed at those who golfed at a weekend and drove around at a glacial pace...
What?
To be fair to the writer, driving one did remind me of a older 70's Rolls Royce as they both kind of 'wafted' over the road like a well handling hovercraft.

What I will sadly recall about them most, are the otherwise pristine ones that got broken for the 3.3 Flat6, so people could put them in drag racing impreza's.

Growing up, a neighbour had one. Burgundy IIRC. Always thought it looked very exotic compared to the hum drum boxes around at the time.

Don't recall ever seeing another.

That engine bay is cleaner than any car I've owned.

Owners review:
Very lovely GT - but it is not a sportscar.
Giuriaro made the lines, which is proof of long living design. No one would suggest it's age.
Despite having the engine at front, you might suspect it to be prone to understeer, but it is quite neutral.
Unfortunately Subaru adopted for the US market resulting in a slow changing auto and way too many kgs. So the 230 bhp struggels. It won't pull the skin of a sausage.
B6 engine is silky soft and runs excellent. Porsche equivalent.
Quality is excellent. Parts sourcing sometimes requires patience.
A need for a more economical car made me sell at the end.

Had one of these too a couple of years ago, looked stunning in silver and black. Nobody seemed to know what it was... Was a really smooth and refined drive. Reasonably pokey but definitely not a sports car. Sadly mine suffered the infamous gearbox problems - slipped badly in reverse, but other than that it felt like a really well made quality car. Have to agree on pricing - think I paid less than 2k for mine and sold for a bit more with sorted gearbox, but its worth what some one will pay especially as they are as rare as hens teeth.

It is on the dear side. I'd only want to pay £4-5k for it. Still a cracking car though.

Someone should buy this to make sure the engine stays out of the hands of drifters and track slag Impreza's. A lovely thing.

I know two people with an SVX. Both have had automatic tranmission problems.

I understand people can fit a Legacy or Forester gearbox.

I always thought this was an unusual car when it showed up in the States. Not the least of
it was the half windows which aren't real practical at a drive-thru window. Always sort of wanted
one though. If I lived in the UK I'd definitely have a look as it looks extremely well sorted. Someone
thought it looked like an American market car. It does in fact resemble an assemblage of various
American cars which given the Japanese propensity for cribbing other manufacturers isn't unexpected.
I'd say it's a cross between a Pontiac Gran Prix and a Buick Reatta. Someone should buy it though. Cool car.

Sorry, just registered and this comment ended up creating a thread elsewhere.( Luddite gene obviously pushing to the fore.)

Subaru SVX, aaahhhh… always loved them, always wanted one, a Jensen FF for the impecunious.
Ticks all my boxes, great Giugiaro styling with great proportions, 4WD, auto box, all the toys and this one is in a great colour.
The only thing wrong is my lack of 7K. Dick Dastardly said it perfectly... "Drat and double drat!"

Mine is ‘97, still going 86k on the clock and cosmetically and mechanically solid…except the gearbox literally packed up yesterday. Looking for genuine recommendations on a shop that can swap out the auto box for a Legacy 5speed….help!!
