It's really difficult to ignore price and value. I don't think we're talking about pennies in fairness.
These are the options I'd like on a Macan S, taking it from a £49k list price up to c.£56k

Metallic paint - £674
14 way electric front seats with memory - £1044
LED headlights - £767
Privacy glass - £33
Surround view / reversing camera - £884
Seat heating front and rear - £590
Heated windscreen - £303
Heated multifunction steering wheel - £383
Bose surround sound - £834

Don't think any of those are excessive options, would probably add air suspension when it came to it and a more interesting interior, but pretty easy to get up to £60k from a £49k list price

Pretty much the options I looked at ticking for an S, but added Air suspension, ventilated seats, autodim mirrors (should be bloody standard!) and extended leather and I was close to 67k..... laugh

I'll be keeping the X5 for a long while yet.

Nice it is, since it has come out almost nothing comes close to the Macan. It is so nicely packaged, the size, the performance, the looks...it reminds me a bit of my old e39, just the right size!
Way too expensive, but attractive, especially in the GTS trim.

Standard headlights are LED and seem ok to me, save yourself £767 on the upgraded ones.

OK granted they arent small sums of money but I dont quite understand the obsession with options , you spec it up & decide if you want to spend that money or not , easy as that really

Lovely car, and great value at around £58k.

You never really need to go bonkers with options on any GTS Porsche, much of the damage comes from personalisation. Also, it is an SUV so no need to go bonkers with the additional performance stuff either. Once of these around £60k- £65k looks good value.

Some have mentioned the SQ5 but that's a diesel with a shocking ride and a dislike of corners (IMO). You can get one new for c. £45k though if you can't stretch to you Macan GTS.

Yep, driven a SQ5 and its not the same league. People can kid themselves perhaps.

This is virtually the spec of my Macan S, except no Bose, but I do have pan roof. I might test drive the GTS, but at only 30bhp more that the S, I wonder if it’s worth £8k more. I was hoofing mine down some country lanes last night using the paddles, it arrives at the corners quite rapidly, but very effective anchors then plenty of gas hauls it round in a way I’ve never known an SUV to achieve. That followed a motorway blast. Not quite 20mpg achieved over 70 mile journey. Much more fun than my 911 in the real world.

Sounds great to me. I'm going to end up getting one anyway, I'd just rather they included those options and priced it at £60k to start with, its the additional cash for things I "need" that is sticking in my craw

You mean the things you 'want' right? Who really needs a heated steering wheel, Bose surround, 14 way electric seats, 850 quids of camera's? lol

Seems like a great family car. The price per kg is also quite low compared to even a Cayman GTS 4.0, which is already excellent VFM.
Imagine if they used supermarket pricing in all cars, giving you the price per 100g or price per kilo?

How about taxing by the kilo?

That would be great, or better still tax on emissions.

That would work!

Let’s say 10p per kilo below 1,300, and £1 per kilo above that, per year for ICE cars?

It think it works for ICE, HEV, PHEV & EVs - as exchange kilo of car is a kilo of resource which requires CO2 to extract, refine and make. Plus heavier cars as a general rule are less efficient. So this would drive a virtuous circle.

Less is best.
