No-one cares, could see this happening years ago, yet Australians, as very adolescent people, worshipped at the altar of unsophistication... still do.

Wow, did an Australian fk your wife or something?

On a serious note, the 1000's of people who are about to lose their jobs care about this.

Don't worry mate he thinks he's a dead F1 driver.

Sad to hear, many happy times in a wagon in NZ as a kid playing top trumps in the back throwing chewing gum out the back window trying to hit cars behind us. Sliding around on the vinyl seat and having a great time enjoying the Holden's comforting aspects. Although I am not a fanatic I understand why people are, lots of grown men crying into their beers over this.

Really appreciated the simple things in my childhood when we came to the UK at this time of the year on holiday it was grey, grey and endless grey. Lots of damp Rovers Vitesse's and Mk5 Cortinas that smelt like wet dog although no one had a dog. My cousin in Harpenden trying to impress us as they had a leaky Jag on their "gravel" driveway. Now they have a Velar as the last Range rover ate it's Turbo.

Seems to be about 600 jobs at the moment - they've already closed the plants in the last few years, just the R&D offices left.

been shutting dealers left right and centre for ages as well

sales have been nose diving of a cliff for a long time, poor product, low investment, cheaper better products from japan

totally expected

Not actually true.

Both local Holden and Ford developed products were more sophisticated than their mainstream competition European and USA equivalents.

What will this mean for the involvement of Holden in australian supercars (V8 touring cars)? Along with Ford, they have been a major partner in the sport.

Yep, the direct affected is 600 but the connected is 1000's with things like supply chains, service related entities etc.

Always a shame when a historic name goes.

I understand that most cars are badge engineered these days, and it's only going to happen more and more as we move to the future.

But for our fellow petrolheads in Aus/NZ it will be a sad day.

If that's true they would've out-sold the other products...

And they did, for decades.

Indeed.

IIRC, haven't GM-USA effectively nicked the Holden platform/design for many of its resurgent and now successful Caddy & Chevy performance models....such as the Camaro etc...??

Sad times - I’ve had Holden’s since I moved (VFII and now a ZB).

It would be like Vauxhall shutting shop in the UK, plenty of loyalty for a non pretentious brand.

It’s already happened with SAAB in Sweden, now Holden in Australia. GM seem intent on shutting down the local versions of its brands.

How do you manage to see where you’re going when looking down your nose so much?

You might not care, but your opinion is irrelevant to quite a lot of people I would imagine.

Not necessarily. I suspect most car sales are dictated by fashion rather than any other measure. Take the UK for example, do people really consider what's 'better' - even for their own needs - before deciding on white, diesel, German vehicle in style #372? I personally suspect not.

Yes aussies can be a bit adolescent - but you know what ? that’s better than than acting decades older than you really are.

Lighten up, most aussies are a great laugh - and you know where you are with them, rather than them acting nice to your face but trying to get one up on you behind your back like so many people in the UK do.
