Oops - sorry, I forgot about that - I was referring to the Brera, Spider, 156 etc. I've never driven a Giulia, but yes, it does sound like they buck the trend.
beer I'm waiting for the QF to drop a bit more in price then I can tick off the V6...

Have never :-
Been to the 'ring (but done plenty of track days).
Changed a cambelt. (But done loads of servicing and repairs).
Owned a Jap or French car.
Owned a V12 (but have driven a mates Diablo a couple of times).
Done a burnout/donuts (but have done a few wheelspins voluntarily and involuntarily).
Never owned or lusted after a Porsche. (Tried a mates 996 he was selling and was left very non-plussed).
Crashed a car. (Couple of bumper touches and a lucky escape from a slide in the snow).
Hit max speed. (Though have managed 270kmh on the autobahn with plenty left. And have maxed a couple of MC's).
Built a kit car or partaken in a full restoration.
Leased a car.

My list - composed largely of 'haven't done but want to'....

- driven or owned a 12 cylinder car (v6/v8 - tick/tick)
- done a track day at Spa
- undertaken a proper European touring holiday including at least one Alpine pass
- enjoyed a 4 week period without having to fix something on the Alfa (it's 48 years old in fairness)
- done the Silver State Classic Challenge in Nevada (think Guy Martin in his van) - SO WANT TO DO THIS EVENT!

Never had an American car (but fancy a Corvette C3) and never driven Stelvio. Never done a doughnut or a handbrake turn, even in someone else's car.

This owning an Alfa thing is a load of rubbish. I love Alfas since the 75, 164 and SZ plus plenty more since then but never owned one. Mates have had a few and they've been lovely and great fun to be driven around in or drive.

Doesn't mean I don't still love them or make me less of a petrol head. Nor does it mean I wouldn't love a Giuilia QF or 280 or a 4C for that matter.
I didn't mean to imply the reverse of Clarkson's statement. It's a stupid thing to say, either way round. I don't think there's one make of car you can point to and say "you must have owned this, otherwise you're not a petrolhead", or indeed "if you've owned that, you're not a petrolhead". I know plenty of people deeply into motorsport who own very dull daily drivers. Michael Schumacher had an Escort van when he started in F1. Equally, I know plenty of people with high performance road cars (like the Giulia QF), but who have next to no interest in cars; they just have a lot of money and wanted something fast and flashy.
Exactly. If you love cars, you love cars irrespective of what you own. I drive a worthy car day to day for station and dump duties etc as I choose to spend money on my house. Maybe I'll get round to something a bit more exciting one day but I still love reading about, watching and driving cars.

No donuts (other than in the snow) or big smokey burnouts for me oddly. Though the Merc is needing new rears shortly, so I should be able to rectify that soon...

Interesting thread this.

Things I haven't done - but want to!

Owned a petrol V12 - Had V4/V6/V8
Driven the 'Ring or Spa - Have driven at Silverstone, Brands and Snetterton & drove a Taurus NASCAR up the hill at 2001 Goodwood FoS.
Driven the Col de Turini
Been to Le Mans - This is something that I'm actually somewhat ashamed of...........
Driven to the Arctic Circle
Been to Bonneville Speed Week
Driven on the Autobahn
Exceeded 155 mph while driving myself
Owned a motorcycle (or have any desire to)
Never owned or had any real interest in owning a Ferrari, Lambo' etc. though I do like listening to them!
Advanced driving training. Something that does interest me.
Driven a tank or HGV

I have owned several Alfa's (1987 Spyder, 155, 156 24V V6, 147 2.0 T-Spark), an Aston Martin (V8 Vantage), BMW's (320i, 325i, 328i & 330i) Jaguars (XJ-Series 2, 4.2L, XF & XK8) done donuts, power slides (plenty unintentionally) crashed (never had an accident that was my fault), been injured, stopped and chased by the police, banned, slept in my car (sometimes with young ladies) spent more on cars than I should, changed gearboxes, cambelts, cylinder heads, timing chains, clutches etc, drawn blood multiple times, driven lots in Europe, NZ & USA, driven through Spain in a Ford Puma rally car and a Motorhome, spent far too much time looking at cars, thinking about cars, surfing Autotrader & PistonHeads thinking about what to own next, restored a car (at considerable expense) worked in the industry for 33 years, repaired a Capri by the roadside when the throttle cable snapped and some wires pulled out of the back of a TV dumped in the front garden of an adjacent house provided a short term fix, broken down on the M11 when the head gasket went pop on my 4.2L Daimler, had the gear lever pop out of a Capri while downshifting on a 1in4 hill in Devon, driven round the Albert Memorial outside Buck House trying to get the rear end out (in a Simca 1000 GLS) only ever sold 2 cars for more than I paid for them (The Alfa Spyder and a Mk3 Cortina 1.6L), driven in the snow (took some of my lessons in the snow) driven round the M25 in a 1.1 Fiesta to see how many laps I could do on a tank of fuel (We were very bored) and so many more things over the years.

I'm now pretty boring and drive a diesel in a relatively sedate manner most of the time, having used up a few of my 9 lives back in the 80's and 90's.

Reading this thread makes me realise I have done quite a lot in my 10 years of driving to be fair, which I'm grateful for.

Interesting to read a fair few of you saying never shagged in a car, that was one of the first things I did when I passed :laughs:

Things I haven't done:
Driven a V10 or V12
Driven an Alfa (although I really don't see the point with this one)
Got any points on my license
Done the NC500 (this is on the to do list)
Done Stelvio pass (again on the to do list, I go to the Nurburgring every year so would like to incorporate this on a trip one year)
Gone over 200mph (whilst driving myself)

In PH stylee:
  • Never done a big smokey burnout
  • Never Cadence clutched
  • Never owned a new car
  • Never needed to add a 'dab of oppo' in normal driving
Back in the real world:
  • Never Owned a V engined car
  • Never owned a Japanese, or Italian car
  • Never owned a supercharged car
  • Never done any 'real' off-roading
I suppose finding a Busso Alfa with a charger fitted will sort most of that. I've been a passenger in some off roading before, but not driven. As a passenger it was fun, I would imagine it's better actually doing it.

I can't say I've ever experienced understeer or oversteer except in the snow. Im not a particularly slow driver but must stay well within my cars limits.
