Mountune Fiesta ST gets 235hp

More power than before, for less money than before? Win-win!

Matt was nothing but enthusiastic when he drove Mountune's Fiesta 225 ST last year. "For those simply seeking more fun from an already brilliant little car, the M225 hits the nail on the head with all the precision we've come to expect from its maker... Get a Performance Pack car with this fitted and you won't find a more enjoyable new hot hatch for the money. And by the time boredom sets in - if it ever does - Mountune should have the second stage of upgrades ready to go" he said.

Well, should anyone have somehow begun to tire of that package, or even just become jaded by its enhanced ability, that second stage has now arrived to give the ST a further kick up the rear. While retaining Mountune's all-important 'OEM+' feel, the new M235 offers further improvements to the 1.5-litre three-cylinder EcoBoost engine, over and above what was achieved previously.

Power and torque have been increased by 10hp and 7lb ft respectively, for new totals of 235hp and 258lb ft. Those being improvements of 35hp and 44lb ft over the standard car. There's also a no-lift shift optimisation included within the calibration, said to make smooth and precise lift-less gear changes easy, while combining with Mountune's enhanced exhaust overrun to create "an optimum driving experience."

"The M235 power upgrade shows how much fun there is to be had from the Mk8 Fiesta ST," said Alec Pell-Johnson, Director of Mountune Performance. "We've worked hard to improve on the already impressive M225 kit and, with the introduction of no-lift shift optimisation and an enhanced exhaust overrun, our latest kit provides drivers with a product that delivers both significant performance and driver enjoyment."

Customers new to Mountune can purchase the entire package (including a high-flow induction kit, Mountune badge and the tuner's SMARTflash EVI Bluetooth OBD adapter) for £575 including VAT, while existing 225 owners can upgrade via their SMARTflash app for £99. The M235 upgrade includes three calibrations: 'Performance' which offers the previously mentioned power and torque increases, alongside a more aggressive launch control strategy and enhanced soundtrack in Sport/Track modes; 'Stock' which returns the ST to its standard configuration; and 'Anti-Theft' which fully immobilises the car.

There's always a chance that further increases in output can tip a sweetly-balanced car over the edge, but the upgrades here sound modest enough without being so small as to be inconsequential. Given the precedent already established by Mountuned fast Fords, there's every reason to think they're on to another winner here.

I've always been a really big fan of the Fiesta ST and I'd love a go in this one for certain. driving

This will be great fun to punt down a nice back road I'd imagine.

So Mountune didn't get the warranty friendly Ford approval for the 225 kit like they did with the 215 kit for the mk7 and so they've upped it to 235. I'd feel a bit hard done by if I were a Mountune customer as these things easily map up to 240-250bhp with no additional hardware and so to be charged an extra £100 for just 10bhp seems a bit off!

No warranty, completely pointless

There’s a reason mountune sold so many mp215 kits

Also it’s a shame that the new car isn’t faster than the mk7

Is that a fact ?

Same bhp as the mk7 with more weight
Or 15bhp less with the warranty friendly mp215 pack with more weight

I had a Mk8 Fiesta 100hp while my Mk3 Focus ST was being serviced and I was very impressed by the way it handled, I bet the ST is a real hoot to drive!

Shame Ford don't warranty this upgrade though. Also doesnt bode well for and Mk4 Focus ST upgrades either....

How can you even deny that? Two standard cars side by side, even a roll-on test to avoid whether the Mk.8 was using launch control.

The new engine has more torque and the same power as the old one.

I loved my ST215 but now have a more mature car.

I would certainly have been tempted by this but the design hasn't grown on me, still as dull as dishwater.

The mk7 was 180bhp with 200bhp on overboost (15s) in 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th. Then there's torque to factor in!

I've drove a mk7 for almost 3 years from new and had my brand new mk8 for about 4 weeks now. The mk8 is quicker as a standard car!

Just a shame the Mountune upgrades aren't Ford warranty backed.

I had a test drive of a Fiesta ST last December. Cracking car, and reminded me of what it's like to be in a good Hot Hatch.

Sadly circumstances meant I needed a bigger car. Since buying a bigger car, the circumstances have changed which would have allowed a Fiesta ST into the garage.

But that's what the space the Yaris GR may occupy !!

Just a shame no Fiesta RS.

Still seems like a great little car.

Perhaps interesting to consider that Ford & Mountune have only now coaxed about the same out of their 1.5 triple as BMW did with theirs (with full warranty) in 2013!

Fair enough

I’d argue that the overboost thing essentially means it’s 200hp but I take your point that it’s not 200 in first and second

I replaced my mp215 map with a cp2 and it shows how laughably conservative the 215 is, esp in 1st

On my mk7 I went from mp215 to Peron 2 to Peron 2 Pro and both of those blew the 215 away!

I'm now running my mk8 on a TRS map with somewhere between 240 and 250 and it's arguably quicker than my old Peron 2 Pro mk7!

What I will say about the mk8 is that the power delivery is less aggressive and more evenly spread through the rev range. You get more low down but less high up.

I'm a Corsa VXR owner but workmate has the Mk8 and has been looking at options.

I can't imagine they'll get many takers for this...IIRC Revo stage 1 pumps out more power than this for far less money and apparently Mountune doesn't even keep the warranty thesedays? Even Bluefin will get the almost the same power and its only £319 on deal right now.

£575 is a lot for generic map, boot badge and a K&N.

Ran a 4 week old ST200 mk7 and your standard mk8 side by side? How much boost are both cars running?

I looked on the Ford configuration today out of interest as you do and it appears that some of the dealer fit options for the ST include lowering springs, coli overs and coloured dust caps...

It is heavier though? When mine was an mp215 it beat a standard mk8. Arguably you could say mine was still standard as it was specced like this brand new from factory?
Although it wasn’t filmed and uploaded to YouTube so obviously not true.
