RE: More extreme Civic Type R Limited Edition launched
Discussion
I'm liking the new toned down looks of the Sport Line but think they could have got rid of the vents in the roof spoiler too. Agree that the underlying car isn't that great so it's never going to be a looker but this does fix some of the issues of too in your face. Saying that this video shows all 3 and I'm strangely drawn to the Limited Edition, that colour is fantastic.

Commercially this is a great move for Honda as I am sure they will shift a few more now the spoiler has been removed but doesn't this just underline what a drab world we now live in. Everyone used to love the Integra, Evo, Impreza, RX-7, Skyline, even Ferrari with the F40 and F50...you get the idea....and the spoilers were all part of the show and appeal. Modern aerodynamics perhaps have taken away much of the need of a rear wing, but no one complains on a Porsche GT3/4.
The CTR is a modern Japanese icon, cut from the same cloth as the above but born into a world that no longer values or recognises idiosyncrasies of a certain manufacturer or culture and instead we all want grey boxes because we don't want to upset the neighbours or, more likely, we're too insecure to stand out. Very sad indeed.

Why does this argument always come out? I don't want a grey box, it's possible to do aggression without going OTT as per the examples you've already mentioned. They've overdone it to a degree that even makes me uncomfortable and I've owned an Impreza Type R and two Skylines. I'm 48 and a few days ago swapped my golf R for one of these - in bright red. I bloody love it! The golf was a fantastic car but this is honestly about 200% better in every way that matters if you can drive a bit. If you've yet to drive one in anger just because you think it makes you look a bit yoof then you're really missing out on something very special. Of all the cars I've owned (my garage mentions a few) only the noble m400 was a better drivers' car and the ctr beats even that for brakes, transmission and dampening. In short, the looks grow on you when you realise it can back them up.

But the rally reps and Skylines were too much for small-c conservative people in their day. Perhaps you've just got old? Leftfootwonder said:

In principle you’re correct. And once upon a time, dapper gents wore knee-length breeches, silk stockings, velvet tail-coats and white face powder. For many, the current CTR resembles a parody of a 90s hot hatch modded for a Max Power centrefold.
Similarly, today I wouldn’t want to wake up with Sam Fox and the Hoff beside me. (BTW, both make lousy tea and toast, and get crumbs in the bed.)
So in the hardcore version there's no a/c, infotainment, and much less sound deadening to lose weight... but they kept the rear seats to "retain the everyday usability of the car". Who in their right mind is going to use a stripped out Type-R with no aircon as a family car? Much prefer the Renault method of removing the rear seats but keeping the a/c, essentially making a "clubsport" spec version.
The subtle version is a great new addition, but its again similar to what Renault has been doing for years with the non-cup and cup version Megane's. Better late than never i guess.

I think the standard car looks great in its own way, but for me the sportline is even better, it strikes a better balance for everyday use for those that don't want to stand out too much.
Reminds me of the Impreza STI Spec D. Subaru applied the same ethos, kept all the important hardware but deleted the rear wing, offered it in a more sombre colour and made it more comfortable.

I really like the yellow, not sure on the small wing version just looks like a normal Civic sport.
Agreed although no doubt it will persuade some people to finally bite the bullet who’ve been worried what the neighbours will say. They really should have lost the triple exhaust for the 30-going-on-70 crowd though...macky17 said:

Did your Golf make for a safer drive in the wet? Still would like to see someone do a long term test of a few great front wheel drivers vs all wheel ones. jcharltjr said:
FFS Honda, the Sportline looks but without the other changes would make such a difference. Why soften off the rest of the car just because the attention-magnet spoiler has gone.
Still liking the updates.
Presumably they'd have similar mounting points so you could always buy a Sportline spoiler for the normal version?Still liking the updates.
Either that or buy a Sportline rear boot and wing.
Anyways, it's a horrendous mess the CTR, just like the last one, but I must admit, I'm coming round to it. It's too capable to ignore and too ugly to ignore, it's admirable really.
Proper IDGAF what people think car.
