In terms of a drivers car......is this the best civic type r ever made?
Not in my view. I think the FK2 is more engaging, and the limited edition Mugen 20 before it is much more immediate and engaging.

This is probably the quickest to date (unsurprisingly).

Yes, I would think an EK9 or FD2 would be a more rewarding/engaging drive. For me, personally the new civic is too big. I would love an EK9 at some point.

This new car looks great in the yellow, very Jordan from the 90's.

FK8 is only 18mm longer than the FD2, admittedly it is 100mm wider but I can't tell for sure if they're both including/excluding mirrors but it's still pretty damn close.

Do people really successfully run these things in the UK with 20” rims and such low profile boots without constant issues ?

Makes me cringe just looking at them ...
A year of driving on pretty poor roads down here in Dorset and no issues whatsoever, just swapped front tyres at 12k (for same contis which are excellent in my view), no curbing at all and rides very well

In fact in comfort mode apart from more road noise the ride is the same as my Mercedes E350 coupe

It’d probably smash a Z4M Coupe down a B round though winkhehe
It probably would but it also makes small children very because it’s so ugly. Which the Z4 doesn’t hehe

Surprising that there is only 18mm in it, must be a combination of W, H and L that give the impression it's a big car.

I think one of the reasons I didn't get on with my DC5 was because it felt big, it was following a daily Elise S2 though. I don't think I like big cars, cars for driving pleasure anyway.

The Z4 bores them to sleep because it looks like a 2.0 4 cylinder which someone has stuck some cheap wheels and hardtop on hehe

I jest, I jest, the Z4M is a gorgeous thing.

So another minger on the Civic front from Honda that has ram-raided Demon Tweaks.

Looks f*cking terrible, and no doubt endowed with a fake farty/poppy soundtrack that will be a scrabbling mess trying to find some grip to get moving on a damp road!

I may not be a fan. laugh
Err I think they are pretty good in the wet.

My BMW on the other hand... smile

No probably about it. The FK8 would smash most things on a B road.

This is all great but this is a Type-R. Where's one in white?
Championship white is already available.
Excellent. With white wheels I hope?

Not in the UK I don't think. In Japan you can get some very nice Honda accessory (Modulo) white wheels.

I drove one in the wet and traction/grip were amazing. Probably better than a non LSD BMW.

I can't help but think it looks a little too toned down in Sport Line trim; maybe it's mainly down to the change from 20" to 19" wheels...... instead of looking like a more subtle Type R, it looks more like a jazzed-up Civic from lower down the line-up.
And that's why I like this.

No disrespect to those who like their styling lairy- good for you- but a lot of people like their cars to have the go but without the show.

I'd never have considered a Type R last week. I'd consider this one.

This is a question I am wondering as well. In my head, a Civic this big with a turbo charger can't possibly be as good to drive as the older versions....but all the reviews seem to absolutely rave about it. I do wonder whether they are so fond of it just vs the current opposition or if it genuinely outshines traditional VTEC cars such as the FD2/DC2 etc. It's certainly the most well rounded, but from a pure driving perspective, I don't know.

I really must try one!

I have the sport plus 1.5 as couldn’t part with 27k for the type R, the red seats and wing were also a concern. The sport line will sell well!

Hopefully the prices of the MY19 type R may drop!

Much prefer the Renault method of removing the rear seats but keeping the a/c, essentially making a "clubsport" spec version.
I don't get hatchbacks with the rear seats removed, if you can live with two seats you don't have to settle for a hatchback.
Agreed. Much as I want a go in that new Mégane, a hot hatch is, by definition, a compromise of hot and hatch (i.e. hot and not hot). If you're binning the practicality, surely the answer is a proper sports car without the hatchback compromises?

Don't be surprised if due to some sort of weird reverse psychology effect the big winged Type-R versions will sell much better than the smaller rear winged version now.

Ever since it has been released there have been so many who have said "If only it did not look so garish" , "I wish it had a smaller rear wing.." etc etc etc.

Now there is a "perceived" softer variant with smaller wing/less garish and to boot and even more "hardcore" top model variant (with th big wing still) it will be interesting to see if, bizarrely, more new buyers will go with the "harder" big winged version as it looks more like the top model.

Will sit back and watch the sales figures breakdown over the next year or two.

Credit to Honda for listening to feedback though, and offering more choice to suit different tastes or needs. Not easy in the present climate for an independent car manufacturer.

Indeed. Looks like they've been paying attention to peoples trackday issues by upgrading the cooling and the brake discs too - two complaints I've heard from people that are tracking regularly.
