RE: Aston Martin DBX gets Q department treatment

Let's face it, pretty much all new SUV's look the same. The next time you're driving behind one, imagine it with another manufacture's badge on the rear. It really could be most brands.
I'm not saying it's easy by any means to design something notably different and I must add that actually standing next to a car in the flesh does make a difference to looking at a two inch photo of one on a screen.

If it's subjective, it can't be wrong, nor right, by definition. It simply varies from one person to another, from one subject to another if you like.

It's fine that you don't fine the car elegant, that's your subjective view, but others seem to find it elegant, including me.

I actually meant that you're wrong that your eyes are "pretty sharp".

Apart from the Bentayga, its faster if not the same as the others. Dont forget its only one model....how many Cayenne's are there? 5 i think.
Reliability...yes its a unknown car and i wish Aston would release the bloody thing but no outward issues with the recent new cars they have released and actually speak to an Aston owner, there is not much that go wrong with them.

Car & Driver, for example, timed a Bentayga V8’s 0-60 at 3.6secs.
The Cayenne Turbo and the Turbo hybrid version both achieve 0-60 in c. 3.6secs.
So, all of the above are quicker than the DBX - and all of the above are cheaper. As is the Audi RS Q8.
And let’s not forget the Urus, which also outguns the DBX, albeit at approx the same cost.
DBX reliability? There’s an alarming amount of new complexity on the DBX for Aston’s engineers: extra electronic systems, diffs, drive shafts, active ARBs, variable ride-height suspension, etc.
Aston is debuting its take on a type of vehicle that Land Rover still can’t build/engineer reliably. Or maybe the Toyota gurus that Bez hired can sprinkle some Land Cruiser fairy dust on the DBX?

When dealer sales staff go on DBX training, they get to experience the rival models that the DBX is pitched at. Those cars are the Urus and the Benteyga. So while there are quicker cars in a drag race, in the real world, the prospective buyers have other priorities. Aston's dropped the DBX in to that small market place, dead centre, offering the luxury of the Benteyga but the sporting dynamics of the Urus. Handling is where it has abilities that other SUV's don't. It doesn't handle like a bus, many of the large premium SUV's do handle like a bus.

If we MUST compare these cars from a straight line performance perspective (and I do likes me a drag race on occasion ), perhaps the entry level DBX (because that's all we have currently) can be compared against the entry level variant of each car it's apparently not as quick as in a straight line. Or...we could wait until the AMR and hybrid DBX's arrive, at which point a comparison to a Cayenne Turbo Hybrid (which it doesn't actually compete for sales against) might be more worthwhile. But again, they're at every widening - different price points, aimed at different buyers.

Regarding the perceived lack of build quality and reliability - I'm not sure where the assumptions comes from that the DBX will be unreliable. Astons are built like tanks, and rarely suffer anything other than the odd niggle that any performance car could suffer from. I suppose the trouble here is we're often told that when another car maker has a spate of faults reported by owners, it's not "representative of overall build quality", but when some isolated cases of issues on an Aston Martin are brought up, it's perceived that every single one built must be utterly terrible...

Unfortunately for those who don't like Aston Martin, the DBX is just a really good product. Which is pretty good going, for a first stab at an SUV, by a company that every single day is reported as being awful and on the cusp of apocalyptic collapse.
