Hi guys new to the forum and need some advice. Something was stolen off my car a few weeks ago, distinctive one of a kind. I have managed to track it down via Gumtree and am ready to go round and confront the person selling it. Problem is I am a woman and I don't have any guys who can help me out. Should I get the police involved?

If you’ve got good evidence that it belongs to you, talk to the police. If not, I wouldn’t bother even going to talk about it

I bet the police won't want to know.

They will probably phone them and ask if they have the item, of course they will reply 'no' and 2 minutes later it will be gone.

What else can you do really?
I would set up a new account on gumtree with a gmail email address.

Make an offer, arrange to collect over the weekend to buy you some time and get their address. Then call the police. You never know, they may go and recover it.

Jeez, lay off the OP.

OP, you’ve done the entirely right and sensible thing by informing the Police but please, please chase it up regularly as it’s the kind of thing that will get lost in the cracks.

What was it that was stolen ?

I guess you've captured evidence (don't let the advert disappear before you have a record of it).

Once it is all resolved, my idle curiosity would love to know what it is/was!

There are quite a few powerfully built directors on here who are handy with a keyboard, so maybe post your address up, they might be able to give you hand.

A friend had similar with a cage that fits to the back of a truck. One of a kind custom made. He had the whole truck stolen but the cage turned up for sale on Facebook a few months later.

We enquired about it and asked to go see it. Seller sent an address so we went round and stole it back.

Never heard anything else. I’m sure you have a friend or know of someone who will go retrieve it for you.

Amazing how some totally fail to see any irony, anywhere ! smile

Anyhoo.

If you cannot prove it belongs to you, forget any help from the cops.

I'd be taking it back. Cheeky tts,

This is the problem I have relatives who are big and scarey or friends who are either. I think they would woop my ass if I turned up on my own.

A bat won't help much, I suggest a magpie.
