BMWs have dominated the C124PPY plates thread with more than a third of the total posts being cars from that one marque over the last month or so.

Surely that counts for something? biggrin

I've had BM's all my life and i do not think i'm a c--t, i know it!

Bow to my superior car choice!

Regards,

Me, who drives a 12 year old seven series that if it goes wrong probably can't afford to fix it. I also don't use indicators and have claimed the outside lane as my own. Am i doing this right?

fk off OP.

Love!

All marques have stereotypes attatched to them, but not all owner/drivers of that marque fulfil the stereotype.
Since 'drifting' became popular lots of c-ts were drawn to this marque, but there are plenty of old chaps with pre-war 328s, 635s, M1s and Z1s who are not at all c-ish.

with the Prius, you cant tell if the driver is an eco-warrior or a mini-cabber until you look in the window.

with most Ferraris(on roads that are not deserted), you cant tell if its an orange faced trout-pouting Cheshire wife or a PH driving god until you look in the window.

same goes for the Bavarian stuff

Having recently become the owner of a 2008 BMW, I fully understand why they dont indicate - BMWs of this era have a crazy multi click indicator system that makes indicating a chore.

The angriest, meanest, least understanding drivers on the road are men driving Nissan Quashquais, not BMWs - fact

Plenty of all sorts of stereotypes with every car. Those that make these points are generally lacking ‘something’ themselves in my experience.

Do you become a c*** when you buy a BMW, or were you one before ?

I had numerous cars before my current BMW, I try to be polite, courteous and even indicate, in fact I try to be on best behaviour as it is a BMW.

I do some stuff that could be considered c***y to some though, like the Nissan Xtrail this morning hogging lane 2 on a dual carriageway at 50 mph, after two roundabouts of him going to the right lane despite and empty left hand lane, I went up the inside which he didnt like as he flashed me, but the question is, who was being the c*** ?

Yep, and they’re still using it. A great example of taking a control set up that has worked flawlessly for decades, and completely screwing it up.

Men driving most crossovers and MPVs, IME. It’s almost as if family duties are forcing them into a car they don’t want, and they’re angry. I sympathise (had a few horrible years in an MPV myself), but it’s not the rest of the world’s fault.

The answer is of course no, they are not. BMW drivers are exactly the same as everyone else, given that they sell to such a large proportion of the population. You cannot tar everyone with the same brush etc.

Around here BMWs seem to attract the least savoury s known to mankind - inevitably exhibited by the way they drive and park.
However it's very model dependant - the X5/6 and newer 1 series seemingly attracting the biggest bell-ends of all. On the other hand many poverty spec 3 series drivers seem to behave in an almost normal fashion.

I dunno..it must be exhausting having to behave in such an actively aggressive and competitive way the whole time.

No is the short answer. Perhaps looking at the original research would help:

Its partly down to how *some* BMW drivers drive, but also there is still some jealousy/resentment involved in anything German, I have a relative that posts stuff on Facebook, every time a BMW breaks or catches fire "See, told you they are st", its strange, dont feel the need to try and discredit their choices.

They are also perhaps trading on past glories, are a bit overated and a long gone premium edge, its just another car in a lot of cases and as an owner if you feel the need to live up to the old stereotype or as a non owner feel the need to rattle on about it ad nauseam, perhaps its time to move on.

Its like some feel you are really making a statement by owning one, even if you arent and feel the need to piss on your bonfire and point out its not perhaps as awesome as you think, even if you dont think its that awesome.

Trouble is, a lot of other marques dont do high performance models, or they just arent as good, its changing but most of the high performance stuff is German in origin, and a lot of that is BMW's.

A lot of folk say they would never have a BMW, which is just weird, never say never I say, its a bloody car not joining the Nazi party.

There is probably a slightly higher probability, yes.

What has been proven however, is that they appear to be a rather thin-skinned and sensitive bunch, who take themselves a little too seriously.

Most of the time I'm not in a BMW though, I'm in an Alfa or a Toyota, a Vauxhall, a Ford, sometimes a Skoda or a SEAT, a Mitsubishi or a Hyundai and recently also a Jag.

I drive them all the same, using indicators, predicting what others do and accounting for them as best I can, letting others in when traffic is heavy and trying to not get in anyone's way unnecessarily, if I can avoid it. It is much calmer that way and I feel it is safer.

I know this is a wind up thread, but honestly, forget crappy number plates etc, and look at actual drivers and how they behave. You'll see that the vast majority of other drivers are self centred, territorial, selfish and inattentive, regardless of what they drive.

I've owned and driven lots of cars. My driving style and behaviour on the road never changes between cars. When driving a BMW it's blatantly obvious the aggression towards the car increases. It's bizarre behaviour.

You see it on the forums too. When you become that obsessed about something it becomes clear where the issues are. A lot of people have a massive chip on their shoulder when it comes to BMWs.

It's a bit like the DCW threads. The DCW goes out of their way to create situations and keeps wrongly thinking it's the other driver at fault. Their prejudice makes them the issue.
