Looks alright, is a typically VW sort of way. I'm sure it will appeal to its intended market.

Hopefully they'll offer some wheels which aren't diamond-cut.

Its an OK looking car, nothing special. Which the golf has always been to be fair.

The wheel choices though are utterly horrendous.

Erm... is the GTE going to be quicker than the GTI? Or will the extra weight offset the increase in torque?
I'd say the GTi will be faster. It has a considerably higher power to weight ratio and a slightly higher torque to weight ratio.

Editted to make sense. smile

I like that its not too shouty, pick the right colour and it could look great, also really the like the more subtle check in the seats, suits it and retains that heritage feel, downside, every single wheel option on display is awful ..... if you want discrete and rapid, this will do ...

Are people finding it boring because it is relatively unfussy in it design? I quite like it to be honest, the front looks buff without being over exaggerated. It is just bit hard to take it in when the one of the sets of wheels draws so much focus away from the rest of the design.

The GTi wheels are ugly, GTD look ok, GTE not good but better than the petrol

It had better be a great drive as it looks so boring and those wheels and DRL's are particularly nasty.
Power figures are pretty unimpressive and probably won't have much kit inside. Only badge snobs would take this over the Focus ST.

I'd imagine general VW build quality will be a little bit better, but agreed. I was actually waiting for the new Golf Gti to see if i wanted to replace my Mk3 Focus ST... and... I think I'll be getting a Mk4 Focus after seeing this.

Seeing this makes me feel good about the MK7 R that I have just bought.

...Also for those that are saying people don't want bling cars well don't buy a hot hatch then if I wanted a bog standard looking car I'd buy an entry level golf...
I think you miss the point. Some like cars to not look bling but perform well. The opposite of all mouth no trousers if you will.

Plenty of shouty hot hatches available, good to have a capable and subtle option.

2020 Ford Focus RS anyone? - https://kelwaysvillage.com/2020-focus-rs/53-concep...

Now there's a car that looks like it's going fast. Honda Civic Type R ditto.

I actually don't hate the styling. At the moment I do prefer the mk7.5 but that's often the case, I think give it a few months and it will be a grower.

3 styling things I definitely don't like though...

1. Those wheels! Just awful.
2. The 10 separate front figs
3. The central GTI badge right under the VW logo on the boot looks rubbish
You've summed up my feelings too - and the tartan pattern on the seats has changed, it looks less weaker and less confident (ie more grey and less red).

It might be a grower and will make the Mk7 & 7.5 look dated once they hit the road.

It isn’t exactly the fairest comparison is it. The Focus ST, which will be the direct competitor from Ford to the GTI, isn’t that wildly styled either even if it’s looks may, or may not, be preferable to the GTI.

Just returned yesterday myself from Wolfsburg! Personally I think it looks better in person than in the photographs so maybe best to wait before making judgement!

It looks as though the PH consensus can be neatly summarised as;

It’s far too dull

And

It’s far too bling

Clarity prevails ! smile
