And yet if I look forward to a Coronavirus bargain vehicle then according to people on here it makes me a vulture, gleeful, revelling in others' misery etc etc etc. I suppose I should pay full pre-CV whack out of charity to the poor, long suffering car dealers and promise not to upset the poor dears with my distasteful behaviour.

No contradiction there of course. No. None whatsoever biggrin
Yes because "i'm really hoping for and looking forward to bagging a bargain" is the same as "BURN BURN BURN the whole country is going to BURN and i will do doughnuts across its ashes in my newly acquired V8 and noone will point and laugh at me ever again!"

Well, now we will soon see. The standard answer was “Don’t know, there is no market”. Hence, lots of outlets have just held prices frozen . Stock is older, but mileage the same. I doubt if there will be a major fall in prices, although cost to change is all that affects the buyer, and I bet that when this virus wears itself out we will be back to near normal People have short memories.
yes

Though i got shot down in flames for saying that.

Consumers will consume.

Another nice couple of strawman arguments though.
Plenty of it further back in the thread. Queueing up to slag me off with accusations of looking to exploit people's misfortune etc, accusing me of bad taste and other pomposity. But observe that YOLOers in the park might not be in the best taste under the circumstances and its all live and let live, that's the way the cookie crumbles etc.

The fascinating and not in any way contradictory value system of the PH hive mind eh.

Except the market will be massively reduced due to the number out of work.

Things quickly returning to normal and prices holding up just doesn't stack up at all. And we can't use the fact there are people queuing up to buy cars this week, after months of being unable to, as proof that nothing has changed.

There are thousands who can't see beyond the end of their noses and assume this will end and they'll just carry on as they were 3 months ago. Wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the furloughed, who would already be redundant if it wasn't for the CJRS, are merrily ordering cars at this point with no thought for the future. It's just how many people are.

The proof will be in 6 months' time when things start to unravel.

I would be delighted if everything was to carry on as normal, but I can't see any possible way that it can.

In fairness, and with due respect, he didnt say "quickly" though did he?

He did say when the virus wears itself out and things return to near normal

Neither of things will happen quickly.

Eh?
My point being that you tend to gloss up your view to "well i only really want a cheap car so i dont know why people have a problem with that", but your posts tend generally to take a slant much more aligned to ThrottleBodys bleak and willfully hoping for it all to crash and burn outlook.

The connection between what people actually say and how you subsequently interpret it, dramatise it and then alter it well beyond the initial meaning or reference is dramatic. So we’re now into ‘wanting everything to burn, burn, burn’

Perception is reality.

You certainly give that perception.

You come across as very much wanting it all to crash and burn.

yes

Some people can't see it...yet. Another headline today announced the largest month on month fall in house prices for 11 years. Still, people don't get it. Another headline I read was that the BoE are asking Banks to prepare for a 'no-deal Brexit'.

There is plenty of pain coming over the next few months or so. People can ignore it and say its bau for some - only 10% will be affected, etc. Or they can start to take steps to recession-proof their finances. Pay off debt, don't take more on. Refinance mortgages at favourable rates while you're in work and have the creditworthiness to get a good mortgage, and if you have the wherewithal and means, lookout for opportunities.

So no one criticised you for wanting to grab a bargain. You invented it that, didn't you?

I’ve been watching BMW M140i prices for a while and have noticed they have started to drop in the classifieds although are still strong money from BMW approved used.

This is the sort of car I thought would drop in price, lots of them, lots on finance.

I can't be bothered to go back and find it. Have it your way if it pleases you chief, I really don't care.

Yes, i would be inclined to agree. Like any car of that "hot hatch" ilk they're usually driven by younger drivers who are maybe more likely to be impacted by this and more likely to have it on finance.

Whereas your posts tend to remind me of the scene in Carry On Up The Khyber where they're eating dinner with no apparent concern whatever for the fact the building is being literally blown to pieces around them.

Don't we know it? You seem to be adopting an 'I'm alright, Jack' approach to this topic. Let's hope you're right wink

I do too. Look at the queues to get into Ikea yesterday. Do people really need tea lights and meatballs that much? hehe

We’ll get a better picture later in the month when more shops open, but it does seem like there is pent up demand to get back to buying stuff just because.
All the people queuing to get in ikea makes it look busy but of course they would previously have been INSIDE the shop shuffling around so it’s not a good indicator.

If you want to see a queue stand at Primark in Hounslow on the 15th (maybe even the day before for the die yards) that’ll be the mother of all queues.
To an extent but you’ve still got to really need those tea lights and meatballs to stand in the reported four hour queues. Locally there bae been pretty big queues for Wilkinson etc when I e popped to get dog food from Pets at Home.
