My MOT is due on 31 August so I would have definitely benefited from any extension. I'm not booking anything yet though as there may be more developments in the next few weeks.

My local MoT centre has misunderstood this and sent out an email that all the extended MoTs end on 1st August. Err, no, they've totally misinterpreted it! If you've an extension already applied, then the later date applies. There'd be a million cars or more with MoTs expiring on 1st August otherwise!
My daily has an MoT until October, I'd hoped to get a free winter out of out. Arse...
I check my brakes, lights, tyres etc regularly, the problem is many don't. They see the MoT as some kind of mini service.

If there were worries about car safety then a blanket three month extension could have been put forward as others have suggested earlier on in this thread.

I am irritated that the government have 'moved the goalposts' again so that my MOT is suddenly due 6 months earlier than I thought it was going to be. I was also making a point about mixed and confusing messages from government.My car doesn't do much mileage so that's why I believe I could have benefitted from an MOT extension for at least three months without any risk to the safety of my car. I will have a service at the same time as the MOT and I regularly check tyres and lights to see if they are OK.

I really can't get my head around anyone on PH having a moan at the fact that an MOT extension period that is no longer needed has been curtailed. It was introduced because of the potential there'd be nowhere to get a test. That is no longer the case. It wasn't some bonus prize.
The only people I can see moaning about it are a. people who want to moan about *anything* this government does or b. people trying to sell on unroadworthy old bangers or get an extra six months out of something that will be getting weighed in.
In 35 years I have never had a vehicle fail an MOT - do people really have such a fear of it, or have it cost them such a huge sum to get a car through? Actually I don't need an answer to that. If people looked after stuff properly it'd be a simple drive in/test/drive out.
One of my bikes MOTs is due on July 14th and it'll be getting it done on time.

I've always feared MOT time for some reason(a mixture of getting ripped off by garages in the past/running old and rusty cars that are prone to fail on little things). I was only saying to my Mrs yesterday how nice it has been having two new cars and not having to faff about with an MOT, but they are both due one in august though.I've had loads of cars fail over my 30 years of driving, so you've done well I reckon.

Really? On my last MOT mine failed for the indicator light output not being orange enough and excessively rusty brake pipe ferules. The indicator was fine, any random person you'd have asked wouldn't have been able to spot any issue, but short of spending hours of my time fighting it with the DVSA, I just said I would change it. Likewise, the ferules had perfectly normal surface rust on. I cleaned them up, threw an old bulb on the passenger seat for effect and took it back for the retest the next day. Passed without issue. To never have a failure in 35 years, all I can say is, your bribes must be very generous.But 10/10 for pomposity though.

Mine fails every year on emissions. Passes five minutes later. Occasionally I get the odd crusty brake line/crusty suspension advisory because my service and my MOT are 6 months apart, and on my older car similarly 6 months apart I'll get some rust that needs attention. I don't habitually go under it looking for this though, I just make sure every 6 months it's up in the air for a proper inspection.

The previous extension only applied to cars that had a valid MOT that was due to run out. If yours has already expired then it would be very unlikely to get an extension. And that's assuming that they're going to extend them again anyway.Mr E said:
