Anybody won one of those car lotteries?

Are lucky day competitions any good?
I've seen this company come on my Facebook feed i find most of the good cars turned bad with them and other comp companies, i.e crappy tinted lights, wheels, maxton styling kits and DIY remaps. On the flip side there is a massive market for these types of tacky cars so if the appeal there no doubt they will sell.I know a few people who've won on these raffles from a car to cash / tech goodies.
So many companies around.
I'm guessing they spend alot of money advertising?
I carefully watched and followed the winners and cars, as they were listed, drawn, loaded and delivered to normal people.
I decided to give it a go and enjoyed the entertaining draws done by Rev Comps.
Pete and Robbie seemed legit and I admired their business model... what a great job, buying cars and ‘giving them away’ to people who can only dream of owning something interesting and making a nice living whilst they’re at it.
I started to enter here and there, I”m great at self control and figured out I’d only enter for something that I’d genuinely use, something i’d always wanted, or something the missus wanted... (always a Cayman S.... she once dropped me off at an airport for a flight to the States, then went to buy herself a Cayman but got all gooey eyed and bought an RS4 Avant b7)!
A van would have been nice too, as I used to ride trials bikes, pre-covid.
I’ve got an RS4 right now, as well as a V8 90 Land Rover, she has an Evoque. I’ve had countless cars and Land Rover Defenders, always flipping between a fast car-Defender-fast car.. though the v8 90 is the forever car.
The new shape Defender has been a big attraction for me since seeing one, though beyond my means.
Anyway, Rev Comps listed one last week, so i bought a couple of tickets. The draw was yesterday and just before the live draw, I checked to ensure it was the correct night for the draw... saw a Cayman S also listed, so I bought a couple of tickets for that too... then went to have a bath..
Half hour later, I got a phone call.
Yes. People do win, Rev Comps business model is a no brainer, hence the copycat businesses. Their business is as transparent as you want to look into it.
I am so happy to be able to add to this thread. Pics when it gets delivered.

One thing I don’t understand is just how many of the winners take the lower cash amount.
If I’ve entered in the past it’s because it was a car I’d want to own. Why enter a car competition, win a dream car and then just take a lower cash offer?
Seen it many times on FB and even YouTube where these youtubers have done it, meet the lucky winner video and they’re ecstatic then basically say they don’t want it and want cash.
Also, I played BOTB once but never again when I realised the spot the ball is not actually real. You could spend days working out the exact position and nail it perfectly only to realise the X is not actually where the ball is. It’s like giving you a complex equation but the answer isn’t the winning answer it’s a random number close to the actual number, seems wrong to me.

The cash offering is usually a trade figure sometimes lower. On the car my brother won WBAC are currently offering 1.5k higher than that figure.
I think for some of the modified cars though it might be quite difficult to sell them. DCG have a lovely stage 3 Mustang. I'd be very tempted at the cash offer if i won that because I'd likely be terrified of actually driving it as much as we all think we are great drivers.

^^^^ this. I really can't see the point in entering unless you want the prize (even if only to tool around in for a few months)If I’ve entered in the past it’s because it was a car I’d want to own. Why enter a car competition, win a dream car and then just take a lower cash offer?

However, if they actually win - reality sets in. They have to store it somewhere, put fuel in it, maintain it. It's likely not suitable for use as their only car.
Plus, I imagine the partner will normally step in and say something along the lines of
"why are you taking that stupid car when they're offering 30 grand instead - we could use that for house deposit/renovations/having a baby/going on holiday together"
Faced with the reality of a briefcase full of cash or a car that you didn't spec, it's understandable that a lot take the cash.
Taking 30 grand cash instead of a 35 or 40 grand car means you still have 30 grand more than you did yesterday.
I'd probably do it unless the car was ideal for me - take 10 grand out for a toy and use the rest more productively.

My main reason to enter is I like to win. Also I’m happy with my current cars but it would be nice to try one short term for a bit. Plus keeping it short term would easily gain WaF vs keeping forever.

As others have said the reality of being faced with a very handy lump of cash can often outweigh the desire to have some fun with a car etc especially if the car is a passing thought you buy a single ticket for or something. If I’ve entered in the past it’s because it was a car I’d want to own. I only won my little 208 GTi recently, got tickets because loved the idea of a little runabout like my old Mini Cooper S, throwback to the 205 of old etc etc. Reality is the £ value of the car would be way more useful right now than an extra car. If they had offered me a slightly better cash alternative (which they get from a couple of dealers they work with) I'd have probably taken it but I took the car and whilst I have had a couple of fun drives out it's up for sale for more than the cash alternative I was offered
I'd like to think if I won one of the more crazy competitions I'd keep the car a little longer but then if presented with the real choice of a huge sum of cash vs a car I'd potentially reconsider.

Quite a few of us are spending no more than 90p to enter each competition, if there is a chance of winning £38k and it's a car I wouldn't want to own, I'd treat it as a £38k cash competition. Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. I could then go and spend £20k on something I do want to own and pop £18k in the bank.Personally I'll enter:
1) Cars I would like and can practically afford to run
2) Standard cars I don't want that I can offload to WBAC
3) Modified cars that have a cash alt, so I can take the cash alt.
Somebody on Rev Comps won the M2 a few weeks back, then got an insurance quote (£4k!). Rev Comps don't typically do cash alts but they sorted out a trade deal for him and popped £36k in his account. Can't really argue with that.
I'm sure most of us aren't costing up the insurance, running costs or maybe even thinking about storage etc when entering, with a 1:4000 chance or whatever that's a bridge you'd cross when you come to it!
Most of the cash competitions are about the worst rate of return you can find for gambling if you actually go out and buy the tickets. Worse than the lottery even in most cases.
I think for most of the tastier cars I'd feel compelled to take the car and have a go in it, even if only for a month.
