Can I pick some Merc beard brains please? My brother has a W124 300 CE-24 with the M104 engine, he has a problem where it will cold start perectly, idle up for about 30 seconds then suddenly drop to 500rpm, could the coolant sensor be the reason?
Does the idle remain low all the time after that or does it return to normal after an amount of time? Does it ever completely cut out? Sounds like a possible cold start valve issue so far.
It comes up to about 700 after a few minutes, basically once it warms up. It only completely cuts out after the first start, but its rare it does it. Hot starts are fine. Wheres the cold start valve located on the K Jet?

Sorry for departing the thread topic, but to have some Merc brains to pick is nice smile

Another of this parish was lusting over this recently and left equally nonplussed. I believe that CdG was goading him into the purchase, nonetheless.
Bit harsh old fruit. I encourage most to dip their toes into the dubious pleasures of old Merc ownership, but I'm not sure I'd regard that as goading, especially after an unsatisfactory viewing.

It's definitely pre-viewing encouragement, after all we all need a little reinforcement of the man maths once in a while.

I’ve had my eye on this one on AT, low owners, very good mot history with an oil leak sorted last year

It seems the easiest way to avoid engine issues with these is to get one with the Jaguar petrol engine and avoid the BMW V8s

The Jag-engined ones seem to be at least 5 bags mind, that difference buys a lot of oil for a leaky BMW.

Yes unfortunately at our (my) tight-arse end of the budget only the BMW V8’s are affordable, diesels out. The yanks only got the E38 with the M62 and the V12 and they manage to get theirs to high mileage without too much trouble , those pesky timing chain guides not-withstanding. I keep goading my friends into sharing ownership of an L322 but at my age insurance is still far too much

Apologies for the unwarranted distress caused by my (accidentally well-aimed) pot-shot, CdG; it was my intention to be facetious and perhaps prompt a recollection of which threadiste went to see the SL before Jack. I'm surprised that Macron hasn't told us, as of yet.

Apropos of nothing, old chap, you are quite the character and quite simply, the myth becomes greater than the man until eventually one loses their true identity to deification by the masses. Your destiny simply needs to be fulfilled now, with an aubergine SC and an accompanying nubile young and adoring continental lass (perhaps even, Japanese).

EDIT: One way ticket, enough money for a tank of fuel, forecourt shot, LHD accepted.

Jack, please humour me us; hypothetically if you were selling it, how would you (uniquely) phrase the description of the Scottish C140 that you went to see i.e. what's the opposite of 'salt free climes'?, in your patter? yes

I believe that CL has sold (I think this may have been mentioned on here already).
It was on Retro Rides as well.
I've posted on the thread RR.
Tellingly, he's replaced the entire wording and any pictures on the ad with a 'SOLD', now it's gone.

I've been spending the lockdown period idly searching for a manual 6 cylinder W124 Mercedes (anyone know of one for sale?) - such that I have been perusing what the German home market has to offer.

Imagine my surprise to see that the M104 3.2 S class be offered with such a manual gearbox option - I was quite confounded as to why this was available in the late 90's!

“Finished in the fetching period colour scheme of 702 Rauchsilber, or at least Halfords closest mix, with the not oft specified nappa Mushroom leather interior. Gently patinated over only 171,000 careful miles, there is a small amount of evidence of wear to the drivers seat. In part, this might be due to the last owner’s f#*kin massive Rottweiler, nibbles.

Later sold by a specialist in the West Midlands, the 600 was carefully maintained by a fastidious owner before passing through the hands of several prestige used car traders, brooo, who lost all of the paperwork and carried out MOT tests with no expense spared...”

As such, the document file comprises of the green slip of an old V5 and an invoice for two Nagasaki Ditchfinder tyres, which have been carefully fitted to the rear 18” polished alloy road wheels.

Ride and handling of this 600 is taken care of by the standard passive dampers and leaves a total feeling of removal from the road surface. As though the wheels aren’t even touching the road.”

Very nice.
But anyone referring to all 4 x 4's as a "Jeep" puts me off.
3 times is unforgivable.

Nope, I think it's a car in stock at Carwarehouse, they have a couple for sale. Very similar but mine's a 2007.

Not yet. Current sit rep is awaiting wheels back from refurb and a few bits of mechanical work. Pair of ball joints, top mounts, servicing, etc. Will be a cracker.
