For a couple of weeks now I have been cringing rather shamefacedly because we tend to call our G-wagen a jeep. But what is the alternative? Call it a "SUV"? call it a "4x4"? call it "the G"? These are all worse, surely? I seem to recall that Car magazine, back in the day when it wasn't very colourful toilet paper, called the then-new Range Rover an upmarket jeep or some such.
G Wagon?
Geländewagen.

G Wagen
Gladis the Gelandewagon or Gladis for short biggrin

I ran a 2008 C70 for 120,000 miles over 5 years or so, and finally moved it on to a colleague last year. It was a great car, it had that knack Volvos seem to posess of really getting under your skin. Is yours an SE Lux with the Dynaudio stereo? Absolutely fantastic system.

They're very heavy and the dampers on mine were well past it at 90k miles, but a change to new Bilstein B4s for £200 and a couple of hours labour transformed it. T5 auto is the spec to have I think, it's very much a 6/10ths car and is in no way improved by a manual gearbox.

A couple of diverse offerings:

I’m partial to a Legend and this one looks spot-on.

I’m also partial to Bornite Mercedes’ and on the face of it this has potential given the asking price.

Yes it's the Lux with Dynaudio, which is as good as its billing suggests. Owner replaced both rear dampers only a few months ago at c120K (as did I on the S60, give or take a few K).

I'm expecting suspension bits and pieces to be the main cost of ownership, as they have been with our others - and not looking forward to the day when the 4Cs throw error codes on the XC70, given their expense (but that can almost be forgiven as they have transformed the ride when compared to our previous XC70). It's not even as grubby as I thought last week smile

A couple of Saab beards think it’s a 4k car based on photos I took. It’s the first one I’ve driven, so nothing to compare it to.
Nice colour, lots of money spent on rust remediation with Paradise Saab (since demised). The storage company didn’t do a good job presentation wise - brakes were non existent and ABS light was constantly on, tyres were out of round so thumped down the road and fuel reserve light was on so didn’t dare go longer than a few mins down the road.
I spent more time talking Vantages with the co-owner of the storage place than the Saab.

It may work out for you, but the beards suggested I avoid. I’ve got more pics if you want them, email me.
Thanks S, I'll PM you if required. I think my first port of call might be to try and buy the old one back....

On the subject of convertibles, this Saab 900 has got to be a bargain for a competent home fettler, shirley?

I owned a Defender until recently and if someone called their Defender a Jeep they would be lynched.

X350 XJRs - what's the thread consensus on how well they hold up at high mileage?

I've spotted one, in thread, looks good in pics, MOT history ok etc but it's done 200k miles. I'm not worried about mileage in general, I've got a couple of cars over 100k but I'm concerned this Jag might be effectively worn out at that mileage

Wouldn’t worry me per se, but it would need to be bloody cheap because it’ll be a ball ache to sell on again.

Nope, let's go round again.

It made 3.5 or so at disposal auction in Preston earlier this year.

A sensible ad, and some lovely "evening sun" photographs lead me to think this would be a good 'un.

A pair of Volvos...
Having grown up with Volvos a 244DL, a brace of 740's and latterly the 850 I have a major itch for a 740/940 turbo wagon... However, sadly most seem to have been barry'd by the drift werks lot or so over priced it makes me sad frown

ETA: nice to see some great recent thread purchases thumbup

They seem to go on forever, and take a lot more power without problems, if that's what you want. Mine is on 150,000 miles, and still drives almost as new. Nothing expensive has ever broken; all it has had is the usual servicing and consumables, a few suspension bushes, plus a radiator, water pumps (there are three), idler / tensioner pulleys, hoses as a precaution, and a thermostat. Everything still works properly too. A mate has a not especially well cared for one, still running well at nearly 300,000.

Do check it thoroughly of course; it's an old car, and may not always have been loved.
