A haggle away from top thread. How ruinous are these?

Apparently price is fixed, so £300 over top thread if he really can’t be haggled:

I don't think we've had this yet. Friend of mine is selling his M140i, and is fairly seriously looking at this S8... any thoughts? I don't know very much about them

Message sent to 600TT seller. Not a million miles away either. Feel a bit nervous if I’m honest but we all must face our fears at some point.
Would this take top honours as most flamboyant thread purchase ever?

According to the MOT history it is due in August. I would try to negotiate a fresh one. In the July 2019 MOT it had 145k miles on it, which is actually 2k miles more than the seller has stated in the current ad. This may just mean he has tried to sell it before and just re-activated an old ad? This could also mean the photos are also old and the rear arch rust has worsened.

Would have liked to have seen some more interior shots (just because I would like to see more of the interior!)

Good luck MdK

edit - I imagine travelling in this would be epic. It looks to have some kind of extended leather package as it adorns the centre console and doors as well as seats. I remember sitting in an S class of this era at Goodwood and noting it had more buttons on just the drivers door than i had on my dashboard.

I run one of those S600 TTs as my daily.

Bought 13 months / 9,000 miles ago for £5.5k I think. It hasn't been ruinous to run so far. One ABC pipe gave up so had that replaced, went through its MOT with just an advisory for brakes which I will get done soon. Fuel consumption is 15 mpg ish around town, much more on a run.

Great cars, massively undervalued through fear of them being horrendous to run.
Agreed. Mind cost me quite a lot but I didn't drive it much which inevitably didn't help plus the fact I bought it in the dark with more enthusiasm than due diligence.

You will forgive it the odd big bill every time you do an emergency start

Here’s another one that will undoubtedly find outright universal love.

An Insignia 2.8 4x4 with all the bells and whistles at £4K. Big tax and a non fancy badge the only downsides of what is otherwise a surprisingly nice ride.

Excellent buy. I worked for GM until a few years ago and had about ten high spec insignias of various types. The 2,8T engine is a beauty, and can use it with the 4x4. In fact, I strongly suspect this car is ex Vauxhall Fleet Management. Very high spec; inneficient for company car tax (you don't have to pay BIK on manufacturer schemes); and KR is a Luton reg, where the handover centre was. The lack of 'badge' gets you a lot of car for your money here.

What’s up with the edge of the sunroof? And is the roof wet, or..?

Headlights look a state. Nice colour, but can you do a lot better for not a lot more..?

Headlights hardly look a state? They aren't clouded? Pretty obvious the roof is wet, like the rest of the car (and windows). He's just not bothered to dry it for some reason.
Maybe I'm overcooking it with what i can see on a mobile device.

I still like the dark blue one at Junction 17 that's £3k, at least there would be a minimal warranty and it's been prepped for sale. Some would say overprepped, but there you go!

I like that a lot, and debadged too. How hard is it to get those tints off and are they likely to damage the HRW elements?

388bhp to 420bhp from a remap on a NASP engine seems a little optimistic, but it's hardly going to be a slug.

That really is a lovely looking thing.

Do people really re-map non turbo cars? Do you gain much?

Speckled Jim invariably speaks sense but in this case I fear he is wide of the mark. The Saab 9-5 estate is a very good car. Far less common than the e39, and driving one indicates evidence of good taste and possession of a roll-neck sweater.

But, it has nearly 200k on it, only 6 months MOT and it's old enough to have reached the age of consent, so don't expect a minter.

That said <PH mode> for the price of a decent dinner <PH mode> can you go wrong? Buy it.
It’s an £850 car before haggling, appears to work and doesn’t look horrendous. Get it bought!

SAAB have always had neat features that leave you wondering why others don’t do them, typically good seats too.
Downside is GM cost cutting, and for me torque steer because of reasonably grunty engines and front wheel drive.
In my GM days I also had a raft of Saabs. The 95 was the last 'non GM' product so didn't suffer too much from cost cutting, but was an old design when it was replaced, just before they went bust. (there are a handful of new models about, no idea if any good...) The seats are second to none, the night panel great, the cockpit position aligned to the driver brilliant but expensive to manufacture. The Aeros were seriously quick but you are absolutely right, crying out for 4 x 4 to get that power down. 9-3s were OK but not as solid, much more from the GM parts bin, but an Aero convertible in black still looks the dogs for small money.
