Hmm very tempted by the CLK but I have 'the fear' around owning something that can throw a mouth drying bill at you.

Surprised at the lack of love for the 330Ci mit slusher.

Thank you for the responses so far, apologies I'm not able to participate as readily as normal but work has got me back at the grindstone. Our industry's just woken up with a big ol bang.
The CLK of that era is meant to be very reliable. I have no personal experience but have been told as much on these very forums quite a few times.

FFS, it's been a day and my budget creep has been horrendous. laugh I wish I hadn't linked that CLK now.

My dad had a CLK350 of that era from new (2006). It was utter tripe in terms of build quality. Put him off the brand and he's yet to own another Merc!

I have just verbally agreed to purchase this fresh looking E34 Spanish 530i. It has been bought unseen (admittedly I haven’t actually paid for it yet, but an agreement made) and I also have to confess I have never ever driven an E34, but have always liked the look of them. When I found out it had cloth heated seats I was pretty much sold.

I now have the tricky task of working out how to get it from Eastbourne to Edinburgh. I don’t suppose any of you southern coast sassenachs have made an equally rash decision lately and need a car brought down from Scotland for the cost of fuel and some motorway services food? Alternatively I could be bought for similar? Timing isn’t too big an issue as I have a month till collect, so plenty of time for someone to pull the trigger and purchase something special from the land of the deep fried mars bar.

I can't help with delivery but I like your style. Good work.

Why the mention of hatchbacks? Do they want one or is not having one seen as premium?

What size vehicle? Land yacht like we do, or would they be happy with a fancy badge on a coupe to show off to the neighbours? What miles?

If they're worried about spare part prices but want luxury and have £5k to spend, tell them to buy a Jazz for a grand and show off to the neighbours with their £4k holiday photos.
Sorry for misunderstanding. They don't want hatchbacks or big SUV or MPV.
They are looking for a sedan/saloon.
4 seats.
Yearly 10k miles.
Transmission automatic.
Petrol.
Max 100000 miles.
By lower spare part price I meant which brand or cars in option would be cheaper in service repairs. As said before I'm not speaking about regular maintenance as they all can be serviced at £300, for oil and filters. But if broken and it needs like fuel pump or gearbox work, etc. Which would be cheaper?

Does SAAB tic the premium box?

This is a very interesting car - I never knew they did a 4WD 9-3, never mind with a large petrol engine..

I don't get this worry about travelling - as far as I can tell from checking yesterday, the trains are still running and pretty empty from what I have seen on social media.

Luckily, now the grandparents are allowed to have the kids, me and wifey are off down sawf to pick up two (unfortunately not very thread) cars from Leamington Spa on Saturday - not looking forward to wearing a mask for a few hours, but hopefully we may get our own carriage.

Last time I had to venture down to Birmingham a month or so ago, the motorways were very quiet even at rush hour, and the motorway services were a very eerie experience, but it made getting there and home very relaxing and speedy.

Powertrain from the Insignia VXR IIRC?! This is GM's Epsilon platform. Waiting for someone with a longer beard if I am wrong.

Edit: Some serious torque steer in picture 13 of the AT ad laugh

I’m on the South coast, though further west, and when I bought an A8 from Oa Flybe was my saviour. But they’ve gone bust. BA from EDI to LGW is usually cheap enough, if you’re brave enough to chance a plane right now!

I also quite like an E34, though the edge is slightly taken off because, when they were new, my Dad had one as a company car. It was 1992. I was a student, and back from Uni. I wrote it off when it was 6 months old. I’ve never really been allowed to forget it... On the plus side it’s replacement was the 24v version with the newer engine laugh

Though, in 2013 I bought one of the ex Olympics 520ds in sophisto grey. Such a dark grey it was almost black. My Dads had been black. First thing he said when he saw mine? I had a car like that once rofl

Imported W8 with wonky reg-plate anyone for half thread?

Borktastically borktastic. Why would one not replace the Satnav with a UK spec head unit? If the dash is the same as the UK spec cars it will take a standard double din. And is that a solar panel roof? Never seen one of those before. Wonder what it charges?

Seats look lovely.

Nice. I’m prepping my 3 series for sale with the idea of getting into something more barge-like or an e34 (or both...?) having never driven one but have an irrational liking for them. And I live in West Lothian, and everything I see is in bloody Kent or somewhere.

Very nice. Heated cloth is lovely.

It's a shame the Megabus sleeper doesn't exist anymore. I went the opposite way and woke up well rested in Glasgow at 8am ready for the long drive back to Brighton. All for less than £30.

That looks so right. Wonderful (potential) purchase.

Facelift
Heated and cooled seats
Distronic
Less than half thread
Great seller (thanks Rob if you are reading)
What’s not to like?

Clunk at front over speed bumps so prob needs ball joints but cannot find any other fault other than it drinks from the black pump but this will be ideal for trip to France though.

Will do first impressions tomorrow

Drool.... This looks good than the jag. Watching a Lexus gives a sense of peace than jag. Isn't funny.
Don't quite understand your post above, but the Lexus linked above would essentially mean the job had been jobbed good and proper for your mate

That is a serious piece of machinery for the money.

And really, worrying about part prices? Get real, they are buying a £60+k car for less than a years PCP on a blandbox. If it needs gearbox work it's going to cost BIG. If it needs engine work, it's going to cost big. If it's need a full suspension overhaul it's going to cost big. If the electrics take a complete dump....yes, it will probably cost big.
If they want cheap parts, buy a bloody ford.

However I'd probably take a punt and say that Lexus could probably be a daily driver for the next 10yr and not miss a beat. And why less than 100k miles? Does something strange happen at 100k?

I've travelled fairly far for three of my cars; Yorkshire to Cornwall for an E34 M5 Touring, Chester to Dover for another E34 Touring then Chester to Aberdeen for an E38. The last one took two flights from Chester to Aberdeen as on picking me up in the car on the first flight it promptly broke down. After a long train trip home I repeated the flight up about 5 weeks later and happily drove home.

An E34 is a very nice drive still; great communication compared to a modern isolated car but not too old fashioned and rickety. I've had three, all Tourings and all big-ish engines and the last one I bought is a keeper.

Good luck
