Tricky choice really - I have a few generic OBD readers, but the really good bits are manufacturer-specific.

That said, something like the general iCarsoft jobby would work well. I know Snap-On do a very good multi-marque set of readers too, but are very spendy.

I really want an Alpina, they are just so ‘cool’ (so not Thread), but yet so thread?!

From my searching it seems the E46 B3.3 (?) is the cheapest way in? Excluding the 4 pot D3 obviously.

I really like that.
That's two foreign notes tucked into the top of the A pillar trim?

The Porsche centre cap on the alloys has me wondering if a Porsche donated that trim, but not so as the side bolsters would have been more figure hugging?

Admittedly, peasant gears. However, in this circumstance, I'd prefer that.

PS - slight thread budget creep.
Sweet. Didn't really expect it to show up here but it is fairly "Pistonheads" so, awesome. I spend my time lurking on the Le Mans thread but less out here.

Shame about the leaky suspension, rust, and seller who is full of st.

“ Originally spec’d by a wealthy Chelsea resident, this car was ordered to cross continents in luxury and silence, carrying all luggage without compromise whilst still able to shame almost any normal vehicle on the road.”

Oh just duck off with that made up ste.
Nice to meet, "seller who is full of st" here byebye . Take a quick look at the pile of stickers in the bottom right of the documents photo and note all the residential parking passes for Chelsea, the BRDC/AMOC/Bentley Driver's club membership window stickers and the access to F1, Coys auction and early-years Goodwood pass stickers as well. They're all still there. The previous owner met with the original owner and corroborated.

The story goes that the original owner wanted a Q-car, something that he actually had to drive rather than with the modern aids. That's why this is one of 2 with the much lighter "manual sports seats". He named the car Lola after the song by the Kinks which suits her well as she looks like a lady but is all muscle underneath.

I whole-heartedly agree with the level of wordy bks in the advert but I do happen to think it's probably spot on the money if it still presents mostly as it looks in the photographs from when it was last on the road.
Many thanks, the photos were taken yesterday. It's still MOT'd and runs fine but I just don't have the time for it. The side with the "burnt paint" rear corner has marking up the front also, it really is a 10-footer although nearside looks good.

The £7.5k isn't what it owes me, but you never get that back. There however are only two real alternatives here, the £35k AC Schnitzer S5 for which AC never actually sold apparently (probably just a chip, exhaust and induction) or the £37-60k price of an E34 M5 Touring. All of these are left hand drive and higher production numbers, and a little sleuthing shows 10 registered, and I've production figures for the rest if anyone wants them.

EDIT: Just noticed the AC is slushbox anyway.

Looks like the headlining is coming away at the windscreen - may be an easy fix or may require a new headliner. Having replaced mine on an E34 saloon I’d think twice before tackling the job on a touring with the moonroof!

The peeling roof rails let it down too but another easy cosmetic fix I’m sure.
Yeah. Painted those really carefully and sadly the first time I wasn't thinking, a hand car-wash sprayed them. Should have laquered them but I wanted a matt finish. The headliner is only an issue at the front, just need to find the right adhesive as contact adhesive hasn't held it.

fairly unloved feeling MOT history and has likely been abused (previous big-bore exhaust somewhat offsets the Chelsea billionaire who only used to it to go to his yacht in Monaco)."Top quality" tyres means not a brand worth naming.
Goodyears or Michellin or Pirelli or something. Frankly I should have been less lazy and walked out to look at the side. They were whatever Blackcircles had that offered best grip and lowest road noise at the time. With regard to the MOT history, it had become fairly evident recently that my specialist didn't want to work on it any more, hence the failures. The sills were a particular laugh as they'd been replaced ~3yr prior and were spotless. We all love a slightly louder exhaust (and the e34 stock is quiet) but twin 2.5'' with a tiny muffler was just a little too loud and I'm factory-standard obsessed so I changed it back.

I'd welcome anyone to come take a look?

B10 4.6

This is glorious and I need it.
Oddly enough I thought that when I learned that just one car was ever made in rhd, and the engine performance figures make for a nice comparison with the other two top E34 models...

3.8 M5; 340bhp, 295lb/ft
B10 4.6; 340bhp, 354lb/ft
B10 BiTurbo; 360bhp, 383lb/ft

Some enthusiasts in Sweden found a runway and had a 30mph rolling duel between an M5 and B10 BiTurbo...

Then the two Alpinas...

Yes, just yes!
If I was you, I’d have posted the car here myself.
It couldn’t possibly be more thread.

Do you have any interest in an X300 XJR or a CBR 400 (NC29) in P/X!?

Many thanks! The issue with PX is that the monies for this are headed to building a garage and tooling up a workshop to (hopefully) build something very PH I've been planning for over 20 years. Also, as much as I'd love a bike, I think my wife would actually kill me!

It seems to be liked on here and the MB forums like the MB specific one. So I’ve ordered the iCarsoft CR pro which does multiple vehicles. I’d imagine its the same as the £150 marque specific ones, just has the extra software for all the other makes for the extra money.

It was a couple of quid under £250 direct from Amazon themselves, so should be easier to return if it has any problems.

It should arrive tomorrow although the only vehicle I could test it on at the moment is the old Fabia which will be heading for scrap shortly most likely. It’s been off the road since the end of March and I can’t imagine it passing an MOT without a fair bit of work. Still, I can start it up and read some values. Might be able to work out why the aircon doesn’t work even though its got plenty of gas.

Ahhhh can only ask.
I don’t have the cash to waste anyone’s time with a viewing.
But I do have fond memories of an E34 T and a general admiration of older BMW’s in general.

Lovely motor, hope it gets well looked after.

I would absolutely love to; this was mine a long time ago...

It was minty mcminty with a BMW replacement engine just 30k before and only 80k on the car; it was owned by a photographer who had used it in two BMW magazine photoshots - I genuinely think I would still own this car if it hadn't been written off by a sleepy taxi driver whilst parked outside a friends house.

Sadly my driveway is now very full and domestic bliss prevents any additions unless it's one out, one in.

Good luck with the sale - I hope it goes to an enthusiast and not robbed for a kit car or E30 engine swap as has happened to a few of the other E34 540i6 cars.

Has anyone used an iCarsoft Mercedes V2.0 edition?

I'm thinking of getting one to go over and view the E350 at the end of the week.

The CR Pro would be nice, however it's an extra £100, few months late for the MBclub group buy.

Any experience anyone?
I purchased the Pro a couple of months ago and can't fault it (excuse the pun).
Identified all the faults on my wifes CLK, used it on my brother-in-laws LS430 and Discovery3.

Handy tool to have.

Cheers.
Thanks for that, I watched some vids on Youtube too and it looks pretty good, I even found the pro version being sold by Amazon direct.

Just got a message that someone is viewing the car at lunchtime. So either it's sold or someone felt it wasn't good enough to buy, so what was wrong with it?

Not great either way.
Car sold today for the full asking price of £3k after a mechanic went over it. frown.

I was offered it for £2.3k as well cry.

Yours looks lovely and I note it came with the wheels mine should have, although I never could push replacing the pentas that high up my to do list for some reason. I was just pleased it wasn't going to the "drift crowd" - not that I've anything against them, but an LS will fit in a 518...

Genuinely sorry to hear about yours. I had a Brooklands Capri suffer whilst parked outside a friend's a few years back and miss that badly.

Good choice, I'd be interested to compare a laptop running VCDS with the iCarsoft on your Fabia. I bet they're similar.

Have we had this? Apologies if so.

E38 740i with LPG in Marlborough, Wilts. Nice forest green colour with prosthetic limb coloured leather. Has memory seats and a sunroof. MOT looks like some suspension refreshing and brake hose (perishing with age?) replacing could be required but otherwise it looks lovely.

£2.5k

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/202...
That strikes me as good value. Oxford green too. I am happy to look at it for any serious bargista as not far away.

With picture

This is one of two 740s that I see regularly in Marlborough, and definitely the nicer one. Also happy look at it for anyone serious.
Back a few pages now, but the LPG'ed 740i is sold by the looks of it as it has gone from AT already. A bargain I think in the current, inflated market.

That's a real pity about the interior. That wood trim that's fubared will take a very long time to source replacement, assuming you want to keep it original and not slap a covering of Council Carbon Fibre (w)rap. It's all 780 specific so can't be sourced from a 760. You'll also need a good leather shop to re-cover those seats, too - those look totally shagged. Luckily the body looks good - just needs fresh paint. Oily bits shouldn't be a worry if they need some TLC.

A good 780 is a very fine thing, IMHO.
