You're now too late for Autodoc this weekend. Euro Car Parts will deliver to an exhaust place, they do both Halfords Autocentres and Kwik-Fit now. Best to find a local place near to where you'll be, give them your VIN and possibly the last registered UK plate and ask them to get an exhaust or components in for you. Ideally get it inspected before you travel for a quote and ask them to show you and explain on the ramp what has gone. Backwards of the catalytic converter is called the mid section, you may have a Y-pipe from the mids to backboxes, I'm unfamiliar with what you have.

If you really aren't sure, pre book a custom exhaust place that won't baulk if you mention the words mandrel bend. I've had a quick Google and there's Maniflow https://www.maniflow.co.uk/?view=category&cate... but I can't see if they're open on Saturday or that they do fitting (images on Google Maps suggest they do) or there's Powerflow near Southampton if you're travelling that way or Powerflow in Shaftesbury. Any of those can weld in replacements or quote appropriately, I'm sure. Strongly recommend you call them ASAP to avoid disappointment. Feel free to PM if I can help any more.
That's really helpful Betts88, thank you.

As things stand, I'm booked-in with an exhaust place in Shaftesbury who can, according to my ex-wife, 'repair holes in exhausts'. I'll give that a go but I'm only around for such a short time that they won't be able to order parts so I may have to see if they can bodge something and then get a new one fitted once I'm back. It's not in any way anti-social but it slightly detracts from the zen-like calm that a barge otherwise offers whilst smashing continental borders!

As an aside, the cost of a new exhaust over here will probably exceed the value of the car, so I find myself in that awkward position of stick or twist and wondering, once again, whether or not to just buy a tax-free LHD new car.

Looks pretty nice, reasonable mileage.

I love the glamour and optimism in the flowery silvery dealer font on the wall, somewhat at odds with the location!

Possibly someone on this thread would be interested in buying it whilst you are over here and getting exhaust fixed at their leisure allowing you to fly back and buy a lhd replacement back in lux ?

I would have bought this for my upcoming euro trip if I hadn’t already got a car sorted.

Yes the petrol seems too much money. I'd be looking at old-shape E3 D5s, there's often 1-ownerish, FSHs around the classifieds for bottom thread and a bit (in amongst the dross, that is).
Thanks, appreciated.

Here’s the links to the cars I’ve mentioned

I like the car and find myself preferring to keep it, but it's true that driving an unusual (for here) car, and not having LHD, is a major disadvantage. I had already decided that once the time comes I'll offer it to the thread; a one way flight, collection and drive home would be rather fun.

tbf both look decent. Petrol's not going to achieve 3.5K (and seller will know that), but reassuring to see other Volvos in the background.

Because some of us can afford to drive the barge to the shop to buy more cheese, or we can afford to buy more cheese, but not both!

Sadly the reality of going from a job that involved oil rigs and no driving to a job that involves driving to an office 15 miles from my house every day has focussed the attention a bit.
My previous approach was just to fill things when they were empty, but throwing about 70 litres of super a week at mostly boring commute driving got old fast, hence going from the V8 to the horrifically dull diesel 2.0.

I understand now that I went too far in my economy drive and will be buying something with more grunt when funds allow.

I’m wondering, would the perfect threadist model be:

- The tax status of CdG
- He has good fuel prices, but do we have a Middle Eastern regular with 9ppl (or whatever it is?)
- 2Manycars income
- The spannering skills of, err, quite a few people here, and
- The magnetic attraction of good deals like Oa and that G Wagen

Because that would seem like a lot of cheese potential...

I like that we’ve now moved onto a potential cheese scale rather than the crass spare money approach.

Would the costs involved in taking a flight back home and arranging repair via the loan and return from a local bargeista in a similar fashion to R129 and Northbrook’s holiday arrangement be cost efficient?

With the added benefit of a wiff/pungency axis.

I agree. Would you mind trading it for an interesting car over the weekend then selling me that? Ideally a W140 S600 but almost any Merc will do.
