OK chaps, here’s my latest addition - 2007 SL350.

Appreciate it’s not full-barge and was outside thread-max, but hoping it will be accepted on the following grounds:

1. Large petrol engine
2. Lord gears
3. Fraction of original purchase cost
4. ‘Big’ RFL model
5. Bought unseen
6. Internet legend to offer large bills
7. Derin and r129 (briefly) has/had one

Overall I’m very pleased with it. Needs a few cosmetics sorted and some new tyres; I can sense budget creep on this one even though I plan to only keep it a year...

Forecourt shot
(does anyone else ‘treat’ a new purchase to the good stuff? I really need help.)
Nice one! See these a lot at work. Lovely cars.
I still maintain that these are one of the most handsome cars ever designed, in my humble opinion.
I agree. Nearly 20 years old and still has the same impact on me. Very exotic.

Another like from me, blasphemy I know but they are miles better looking than the much loved R129, possibly the best rear ever made imo

I'll leave that here:

A hard bargain on the gearbox (yada yada "...2-3 grand to replace the 'box, maybe more, nobody's going to buy that mate, owd aht yer and for my £3K" yada yada) knowing that the replacement of the valve body unit's going to cost c£1.2K and that's your max liability.

Fortune favours and all that.

I note SB123 & me are of similar mind smile

I don't believe it's an SE Lux BTW - it'd have power passengers seat. Oh and the extended wood's nonsense, it's only the wheel, the rest's standard.
A guy on Volvo Forums will check the original spec if you fire him the 'plate.

Always makes me laugh when a dealer is trying to sale/flog a car with a major problem that they can't or don't want to fix.

A friend is about to put his name to this Bronite Benz,

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1994-Mercedes-Benz-320C...

was previously sold n December 2019,

https://collectingcars.com/for-sale/1994-mercedes-...

any threadists know the car or have any views on it at double thread max?
That is such a cool car. Saw it in the flesh a few months ago in central London and loads of people were taking photos. Only going one way if your pal looks after it

That looks the biz but one of the things I love the most about Bornite is the way its colour changes and it looks brown-ish in certain lights.

Not saying that brown is better but it just makes it more interesting.

The camera and light will no doubt play a big part but compare the 320 above to the 190 below.
(The ambient light in Scotland is also quite different - ask GetCarter!).

And - I hope Jack doesn't mind me nicking one of his photos - below is the same car in English sunshine.

A bit of a chameleon, I'd say.

Wow nice car, was this the NI car you put the call out for? I was going to offer my local services but you got other offers.
I've owned 2 R230s previous SL 500 and current SL 55 and both great cars but with issues. You've picked well in the 350 with non ABC suspension plus it's facelift so niggles ironed out. Like roof sealing is better etc.
Always a pleasure to drive and adults will hate you as a flash bast which is typical of UK/Ireland culture.
Kids will think you're cool with the folding roof and TV in dash.
I also have an R129 in SL 320 flavour, 1994. Well they are very different dynamically. Newer car is a better steer I suppose but older car is more of cockroach and more solid and durable. Silver with gingers it is classic.
Love them both but they are different. The latest model is different/better again but I'm waiting a while to afford one. Thinking of selling both to get an SL 63 R231.

I have said that numerous times on this thread over the years, I think that the R230 SL is the best looking SL, bar perhaps the 300SL Gullwing.

Congratulations on the purchase - they still look as fresh as they did when new.

In a bit of barge-related success, regassing the air conditioning in my W124 (which definitely has 3 buttons in the middle of the dashboard!) has rejuvenated the air conditioning. It'll almost certainly rain for the next month as a result.

Fast demisting. I'd call that a good result!

The translation on Chrome is delightful:
"The neat (non-smoking!) and safe Mercedes station wagon and limousine (W124) offers - the star patrol . Without a CO2 backpack, because your age has offset the CO2 that has arisen from your production.

Of course with a green sticker. These are indestructible cars with large windows instead of embrasures, which allow parking without modern interpretation systems. In which you can cruise relaxed. For rent half-day and longer. Without a nervous look at the minute hand. For spontaneous excursions, a trip to hunchbacked relatives"

Should we rename all parking sensors and reverse cameras to "modern interpretation systems"?

Have been casually browsing the classifieds as you do and came across this:

If it was a D5 even with the suspect gearbox i'd have it, that interior is so much nicer than the merc/audi/bmw offerings and the steering wheel must be a pretty rare option!
Whilst I concede the interior may be better in person, as it were, im afraid i think it looks all wrong. Its like a Chinese knock off of what they think a Mercedes competitor should look like. Chintzy, unresolved, most un-volvo. Each, as ever, to their own.

Very nice and don’t appear to be as offensive as they were when first released.
But why is it RHD but with Km/H clocks?

Likewise.

I'm particularly fond of the Franziskaner (sp?) restaurant in the centre. Although I've been spoiled by 5* hotels during my visits (work money, not my money).

I'm in NI and was wondering the same thing and I think your explanation is most likely true. Either that or the instruments were changed.
I think it's been bought new in Republic of Ireland, would have cost two fortunes there with the higher taxes etc, then the owner has moved to NI and at some point sold it.
Or as was the rage in late 90s and 00s buy a newish car over 6 months old and import it much cheaper than equivalent local models.
