when(if) things go back to normal can anyone recommend a good place in SW Scotland, Ayrshire or Argyll that does a good seafood platter?

Thanks.

Oban has a good few places in it and near it. Ee-Usk is a regular favourite and the seafoood shack near the calmac terminal is good although I don't know of they do a platter. Skipness seafood shack is excellent as well

Loch Fyne Oyster Bar - not had it but seen people eating one and it looked great.

If you have space the 'bradan rost' salmon sausage roll from the deli was quite superb biggrin

If you are prepared to go further North the Kylesku Hotel is excellent and a real occasion in a superb setting:

I had a memorable fish platter their on the NC500 a couple of years ago

Closer to your target area, Portavadie Marina restaurant is also very good adn a nice environment, ..not sure they do a fish platter per se but their fish is always very good

We've always had some great seafood served at the Tigh Na Mara Hotel in Sandhead down at Luce Bay, hidden gem of an area !

dlks that's an interesting and good shout. I used to go on primary school trips to Sandhead ( the high life I know), also YF disco in the tigh na mara didn't know they now did good food. Portpatrick near there is a favourite place of mine but not sure on the quality of food.

Its a quality seafood platter I'm specifically after

Best I've had was at Loch Fyne their outlet in Bath is no where near as good by comparison though.

Loch fyne oyster bar is not the same as Loch fyne restaurants
Loch fyne in bath etc is a Greene King brand that the original loch fyne oysters company sold off.

Campbell's in Portpatrick has always been excellent for food but it's over 5 yrs since I was last there. The Pierhouse in Port Appin is awesome - booked ahead for a big celebration last year and they put on a fantastic seafood spread for 20+ of us.

Interesting and makes sense, I've been in a few Loch Fyne chain places and found them expensive and very average. Often lourded as 'posh' by other that frequent, I've never seen them as such. A step above a Pizza Express maybe...

My favourites...

Tayvallich Inn, Tayvallich
White House, Lochaline
Plockton Inn
Loch Fyne Oysters
Loch Leven seafood cafe (north of Glencoe)
Mishnish, Tobermory
The Boathouse, Ulva
Gille Brighde, Loch Diabaig
The Old Forge, Inverie
Galley of Lorne, Ardfern
Lord of the Isles, Craobh Haven
Ee-Usk, Oban
Kilmory Inn
Cafe Fish, Tobermory
Oban Seafood Hut
The Pier House, Port Appin
The Crannog, Fort William

There are probably more... the Crinan Hotel can be excelllent/meh depending on attitude... also try Portavadie but also costly.

Can you tell I like seafood?

Happy tasting!
