are they forgetting that the E46 had a bulge?
Anyway, it doesn't matter what people think, this will sell regardless and they know that
I wouldn't put money on it. Honda's new design went ahead after a bad public reaction and sales went right down so they re-designed it after 2 years as opposed to the 9 years the previous model ran for. Anyway, it doesn't matter what people think, this will sell regardless and they know that

It'll be interesting to see how the two compare, especially as the regular G20 3 Series has been generally regarded as a pretty handsome saloon car (unless it's the M4 Gran Coupe we're seeing here, of course).
This categorically isn't the Gran Coupe. That's going to be a whole other discussion when it arrives. Personally I doubt there will be a M4 GC, but time will tell...I was hoping that they would only put the muzzle on the M4, not the M3 as well. Oh, well. I’m sure something else will be out there to buy.
As someone who has defended BMW’s more recent designs, I am struggling with this one. And a BMW I spoke to about something else said he was aghast as well.

Cannot wait to see the sales figures for 2021-2022 post virus for the 4 series and 3 series . I have a feeling they are going to be errrmm disappointing in the extreme and anyone who has bagged themselves the last of the M3 and M4s is on for a bit of an upswing in values. You can't replace a good-looking m4 coupe with a big steaming pile of shiney and bright and expect the sheeples to flock to buy it . The first aftermarket company that gets a nice looking full bumper grill replacement upgrade sorted will be licensed to print mucho dollar. And where the hell has the Hofmeister kink gone ffs . Sort it out BMW !!!!!!
Shame I was genuinely interested in this generation- had E92... but I can’t own something that looks like that however good it may be. Aesthetics are an important aspect, the look back after it’s parked factor. Plenty of other good stuff out there that also provides the extra bonus of being nice to look at.
Someone pretty high up at Bmw is getting their way signing
Off stuff like this.
For me to spend some serious money on a car it has to >
Sound great
Look great
Handle well
Go well.
You may question why I didn’t write that list starting with
Go well and handle well.
That’s simple, if it’s a minger or sounds crap I don’t stop
Long enough to see if it goes or stops well.

Only a goofy nerd would buy.
Err, I don't think you understand BMW's market. My optician will buy one of these because it's an M4. The gym owner will buy one in burnt orange because it's an M4. The owner of the plastics factory will buy one because it's an M4, and he'll use it on the school run with launch-control on departure to make sure everyone knows he has an M4.
Maybe a driving enthusiast somewhere will decide not buy one because of the looks, but that doesn't really figure in the grand scheme. He'd be better off in an M2 anyway.
'M' doesn't really mean Motorsport anymore in the public image, it means 'Made it, look at me'.

"Certainly sir, I can quite see why you'd need to do that".

I think you’d certainly need an eye test if you describe them as beautiful!
It’ll no doubt be very very fast and pretty damn good to drive, the new BMW interiors are really nice (not jazzy, but solid, functional sensible and nice) but none of that makes up for the awfulness of the exterior especially for the money they’ll cost.
I’m sure they’ll sell well though....obviously a lot of people on our roads with dodgy eyesight!
