I don't have a personal reg no, but I do have Henry, a Jag XJR. I've looked on the Reg No websites for a tempting plate, but all I like are expensive. The XJR is no more. So, with the demise of this model, I'm wondering if the plates offered with XJR on them are/have become worthless, if I make a very low offer, will I get a rude reply? Or, maybe better, just ask the Reg No websites the current status of these plates?

it doesn't quite work that way just because the XJR isn't produced any more. There are plenty out there with 'normal' plates and as they change hands and get older people will still want plates for them to de-age them and show them off.

XJR relates to a specific model of car, that ceased production. You can buy the car for less than some XJR plates !! I doubt if XJR is anyone's initials either, so I'm assuming it's a very narrow market for such a plate. XJR 1 is priced at £37,496 and XJR 8 at £26,485. The most expensive XJR on Autotrader is £35,000. Can't see much of a market there, to be honest.

My apologies if this is the wrong thread, please redirect if a more suitable one exists. I'm looking for a suitable number plate for my car, primarily to de-age it and have a couple of questions / observations:

1. All the private number companies seem to have the same numbers for sale, is there a central database they all share?

2. Are they in fact all the same company behind the scenes (check out all the M&B pub brands under the same company but with a different look and feel for the individual websites, Miller and Carter, Ember Inns, Vintage Inns, etc.)?

3. Is there a screen scraper site that'll check all the sites rather than searching a dozen websites individually (and finding the same numbers)?

4. I have a MG ZT 260, so was attracted by the (relatively) cheap availability of V8 - - - plates, but can't find anything suitable for the car (or of less interest me), obviously anything MG related has gone or is reserved for auction and it being a ZT doesn't help with Z being un-used in mainland UK.

5. DVLA is obviously the first place to check and at the end of the day I could just get a cheap plate but finding a 'good' one - ugh!

6. So.... if anyone's bored it's a MG ZT 260 with a V8 4.6 engine, VIN 442 (as less than 1000 made they're referred to by last three digits of the VIN)!
Decided to go for a V8 - - - plate with my initials in the combination in the end, purchased from DVLA.

Ironically, part of the reason to get a V8 plate was to identify the car as a V8 as it's V8 badges have been removed by a previous owner and are unique to the car, NLA and are like hens teeth - an hour after I buy the plate a V8 badge appears on the Bay.... banghead

Let me get this right - you're expecting that because the XJR is out of production, the plates will be cheaper? Ignoring the fact that they were made for around 30 years, and some of them are appreciating in value rapidly like the X358 XJR?

There are a lot of 350 & 356 models out there that cost less than top-of-the-range number plates. Can't see anyone buying a 17yr old car, and then spending more than it cost for a number plate.

Exactly what I though. Really cheapens the plate

I’m sure this will have been posted before, but I saw TAX 1 property spaced on a yellow Tesla, which unsurprisingly is also a taxi!
