I’ve got a feeling that it will just fall foul of uk VED and BIK rules. Without nailing down those key determinants for utility vehicles, sales may flounder. Otherwise, it meets the design brief and I would covet having one. Well done Ineos!

Well that looks mega. I can see why JLR tried to shut it down. This could be very successful. Really looking forward to hearing about the drive train and whether the chassis will be galvanised!

Glad to see I wasn't the only one who immediately saw the Santana resemblance.

I don't really see the point of it but if they can make it work good luck to them.

Such a coincidence LR announcing the "Hardtop" earlier this week....

TATA, please buy the rights of this and call it the new Defender, and rebadge the new Defender as Discovery 6. I have no problem as this wasn't designed or developed by LR, in fact I don't mind if INEOS/Magna continue to build and improve it over the years. G-Class was almost solely done by Magna anyway. And at least we will have a British build Defender if it matters.
Would you then buy one?

You can’t “trademark” a design. Only a name/logo. I suspect you mean copyright or patent??

This thing looks very promising. In some ways it has a sniff of G-wagen about it, which might be totally surprising given that Steyr-Puch is involved.

I like it. I think. I'm not keen on the black bits all over the doors and below the windows, but I guess on a darker paint they would look less obvious. An auto option is a must as that was the one biggest thing which put the OH off a Defender. Are they planning a BEV version at all?

Overall I think both INEOS and JLR have achieved their design objectives. I think most (potential) buyers will instinctively know which one they are most likely to go for, I can't imagine there is much crossover. Very much a form vs function decision.

Finger crossed, this will be a good thing for Bridgend after Ford's closure.

Now, if only the boys in Hereford could express and interest they could get off to a good start with a few overpriced green specials!

I'm guessing 300bhp/t is spaffing over his Weetabix this morning. Or, more likely, trying to find something not to like.

I'm going to look at ordering one as a replacement for our Disco 4. It'll look epic in a dark colour.

More than a hint of Santana about it, but I like it

Will be interesting to see how many put their money where their mouth is and buy one

It looks interesting. I applaud their insistence on utility.

I wonder how useful it will be to utilities and farmers without needing to spec lots of options / bespoke kit? How many people will need the added utility over a Japanese pickup, though?

It must be very challenging to build a completely new vehicle that will be reliable, well-designed in all aspects, with good technical/parts support and cost effective for a business user.

Well in certainly more in the new jlr defender/disco target market for lifestyle use. But I prefer this to any other alternative. I wouldn’t be comfortable with a jlr engine given the frequency of oil dilution and snapped crank shafts. A bmw 3l single turbo diesel and zf8hp autobox represents drive train perfection in this segment. Given the serious off road ability and a child proof interior this would make a perfect caravan tower, canoe mover, bike mover, kid mover, dog mover etc. Just hope it’s also comfy enough for longer distances at 70mph without too much back pain and unacceptable levels of noise.
To me it looks more like the old base spec g wagen than an old defender. Especially head on.

It is quite a busy design, with lots going on.

Ribbed and dotted doors for extra sensation. What looks like the the biggest fuel filler flap ever. Perhaps it covers fuel / AdBlue and protects for a charging port?
As it says in article I think it's actually a hatch to store wet items in a sealed box in boot. Seems like a genius idea.

Unless it's significantly nicer to sit in and drive than an old Defender then I doubt they'll be winning the lifestyle/fashion market as it's brand oriented. People will just carry on buying rebuilt old Defenders as I doubt there will be much difference in cost. There's still plenty of them about after all.

Personally unless they've got a load of utility customers lined up for them then I reckon it'll be dead within 5 years.

I suspect that if INEOS, (which I think is one of the world’s largest petro-chemical firms?) offered TATA a fiver a mouldy grape, then TATA would off load JLR, faster than you can say Grenadier Defender...... but Sir Jim is a bit smarter than that..

His Ineos Chemical group is worth £80billion so surely all those sites and pipe networks that need regular inspection will be ordering the pickup! Probably give them a good start. . .

Huh, you're right, you can see it in the first front shot, but not in a later one that appears to be from a lower angle.
