Can't answer your question sorry but a hitch lock would be a far better solution.

I use an Al-ko one but it will only fit Al-ko hitches.

This would appear to be universal and can be used hitched or unhitched.

to use it unhitched you put a plastic ball in the hitch then lock it in place:

eta: sorry, i think the milenco one i linked to is for Al-ko hitches as well but i can't see why it wouldn't work on any design, I think they are designed to prevent access to the releasing handle. Might be worth investigating what brand of hitch you have and going from there.

is this a temp one off, or a 'longer term' fix, if so get a hitch lock

Most tow bars have a drilled hole or somewhere a chain could be fed though and secured with a padlock.

You can do similar though the trailer chassis and fix with a padlock. Matched locks would save having different keys.

When at home I use a ground anchor, or two, maybe three.
A chain link is handy for the odd occasion I park up, a car show for example.

wrap around the frame a few times then the tow bar a few times then padlock the two ends, make sure its tight enough to not be able to remove the loop[es from the tow bar and or frame.

If its not long enough to do that you are probably screwed.

Just put it around the trailer, and the towbar and lock it.....? If this for when stopped presumably?

Trailers over 750kg are designed to break away from the tow vehicle in an accident, part company but apply the trailer brakes. So i would be hesitant leave it on other than slow speed local journeys.
Same applies for the Alko clamp on friction hitches, nice and neat if you have a swan neck hitch, but not so clever when it goes wrong and the weight of the caravan roofs the family car and rolls is down the motorway, much better with a standard hitch and conventional sway bar in both my opinion and that of various recovery truck drivers I've chatted on the ride home...

If hes like me its more worried about leaving the car and trailer in a less than nice looking place over night and doesnt want it stolen. Not really for locking it to the car when moving about.

I always just reverse hard up against a solid corner like a wall and jackknife my way in so that they couldnt just unhitch it and turn it past the rear.

If they go to the effort of moving your car to get at the trailer no lock was ever going to save the trailer frown

My trailer usually has this attached.

Much of what can be bought is a bit on the flimsy side. There's no substitute for 20mm bar and half inch plate. wink

Doesn't lock it to the car, though, which was the OP's question.

I already covered that in previous post number 5.

Why not use both ?
