The budget would cover a V10 R8 GT. Manual, carbon everywhere, alcantarra buckets and very rare. A true supercar.

Why would you choose a vanilla V8 instead?
Because many reviewers actually preferred the V8? Slightly lighter and better balanced.

I think the 360's look dated and their performance is poor now. If they can be out accelerated by a family car that can take 5 adults and some suitcases... I'm struggling to call it a supercar anymore. A classic Ferrari, sure. Supercar... I don't think so.
That’s one way to look at it but the generally accepted way is to think of it “in period” context. A Mercedes 300SL from the late fifties would get out accelerated by a pair of electric roller skates but it was most definitely a supercar in 1959...

Tell you what. I'll give you a Golf R, an Audi 'something' or whatever and you can swap me a 360.

There is more to a supercar than numbers.

I tend to agree with this although I do understand the previous poster and his viewpoint.

I’d expect an early Countach to be pretty slow compared to most stuff now but it’ll always be a supercar surely?

Heart says Manual 360, noisy exhaust, cream interior and Challenge grille and wheels

Head says a Cayman GT4 is probably a more sensible bet and forget all this lot, they’re asking for trouble, and you’ll enjoy it just as much

Rest of me says, “ooh an Esprit”

i can see both sides. then again, great cars often deliver in many ways - power delivery, response and chassis feel. not always, and they certainly need tired parts to be refreshed to do them justice, but a Golf R is a soulless demonstration of efficiency.

boring as it sounds i feel like I'd go for the corvette. Much as I love the ferrari I feel the 'vette will be less expensive to maintain. something you could hapily own long term if you aren't a powerfully built company director.

Of course. It'll always deliver an experience beyond a 'sports' car.

Love the Gallardo. It just doesn't seem right that it can be had for only £65k even though it's 15 years old.

Seems odd to have the Corvette, but not the 997.1 turbo in the list. By any sensible measure, it's as much a 'supercar' as the others.

997.1 GT3’s are comfortably below £75k, would they count? Probably no less special than a 360 and certainly not an Esprit or a V8 R8.

I’d take a GT3 over any of those listed I think.

That's true of lots of older cars - and I'd enjoy to drive them. But would I want to own them and use them on a regular basis? I'd actually consider a Macca 570S if I was really in that market.

GT was R-Tronic only IIRC.

How old was the author when he went to university?

He was at primary school in 1999 and then at uni in 2006.

FWIW 360 every day.

Ferrari 360 all day long for me. I actively want one, and could just, just about afford to buy and properly maintain one, but given everything that is going on at the moment I dare not. Knowing my luck I'd buy it on the Saturday and get called to the initial consultation meeting at work on the Monday.

One day though, for sure!

Great selection

Owned an Esprit Sport 350 for a few months - what a car but the ownership experience was sullied by some rather expensive to fix problems - surprised that they are so dear?

I'll take the 360 as I can make way more money selling it to someone who either likes old Ferraris, or someone who wants a Ferrari but can't afford a supercar.
