RE: Audi RS6 (C7) | Spotted
Discussion
I know not quite the same but I think it's this engine in de-tuned form in the C7 S6 which in the right colour combo looks almost as good (and most are well specced) for about £24k. A reputable remap surely would see it not far behind plus £10k saved.
I was also looking at facelifted D4 S8s (same era but arguably nicer car still) which are just over 500bhp stock yet £25k for a decent dealer approved one.
Impressive residuals on the RS6, and admittedly the cooler car vs the above in-house Audi alternatives.
I'd still be too worried about having it stolen though to take the plunge.

great cars, however I had the a6 bi-tdi allroad which was just as quick a-b.
It may well get from A to B as quickly, but on those occasions you can plantar flex your right ankle, instead of going seriously quickly and having a V8 soundtrack you unfortunately have a dreary diesel noise to remind you that you have the boring option.
I consiered one of these instead of the CLS63 Shooting Brake I ended up with. The Audi at the time was 50% more expensive second hand (I paid less than £30k for the 50,000 mile 2013 Merc).
The Audi is better looking, had a way, way better gearbox, and 4wd, and better boot space.
But the Merc had a far nicer interior, better ride, better steering and the thing that really swung it for me - makes a far better sound. When you spend most of your life pottering, ride quality and V8 burble matter!
The Merc was also a great deal cheaper to insure here in S.London.
If they were the same price though, I probably would have taken the RS6. Just more desirable and (I think) a future classic.

I really like these. Compared to the new eye one, they balance the subtle yet purposeful looks better.
My uncle recently bought one (just before lockdown) and is very happy with it. He’s previously had a B7 RS4 and a C6 RS6. The latter was very vast but extremely blunt and didn’t sound great. He’ seems very happy with the C7.

My uncle has a 2019 3 litre diesel A6 Avant so yes. It certainly doesn't sound anywhere near as nice as a V8 petrol.
Is it a BiTdi though? The boggo 3 litre sounds very different from the BiTdi. But yes, the V8 will sound much better than either (just wish I could afford one!).Twoshoe said:

Have you ever heard a BiTdi? I’m not saying it sounds as good as a petrol V8, but it sure as hell ain’t bad, I promise you. It’s certainly not dreary – neighbours didn’t believe me when I told them mine was a diesel.
Thats because there is a speaker (resonator) in the exhaust that plays a fake exhaust note. Its not the real noise the car makes, but it is quite convincing!
