I have always struggled to appreciate the styling of the fixed head version, it's not beautiful by any means. The convertible is stunning though. This Pill is not for me.
Personally I’ve always found the lines on a Series 1 FHC without doubt the most beautiful E Type shape......the roof line on the convertible is not fluid or stream lined at all....

Agree. The 2+2, as this car is and all V12’s were, has a taller roof line which takes some of the styling elements too far and spoils the look. But the 2 seater in lithe S1 form is gorgeous. Even opening the door to drive one is an experience with the curve of the rear arch right next to your hand and the knowledge that some of the underpinnings aren’t too far removed from the Le Mans winning Jags of a few years before.

I don't really care much for the car, so don't really see the problem with throwing a superior engine into it, unless you want a museum piece.

That said, lhd would make it more appealing to the US market imi

What's the USB of this vehicle - the engine! So why no photos of the engine?
They're stuck on the floppy disc.

I guess at the right price, it could be a good ‘outlaw.’ Good tyres and brakes etc., no great concerns over originality. What is that price though??

I’d imagine it’d still get you entry to the Jag paddock at Goodwood at least.

I would guess the V8 engine is worth something on it's own being a Cobra spec

Never been a fan of the 2+2 coupe but I do prefer the series 1 coupe to a roadster

I like it, seeing as it's already been hacked around and the engine might be worth something, surely there is a good case for whipping it out and 'popping' a modern LS lump in for top trolling ability...

Excuse my total lack of e type identification skills but could it be this one with some of the nastier additions now removed?

And/or most certainly this one...

Neither, the youtube cars are both two seater FHCs, the one in the article is a 2 + 2.

If the body is as good as it looks (perfect shut lines and no rust) then this is a perfect project car but even after you have put the right engine back in it and fixed the bonnet, it’s never going to be worth more than £45-50k because it’s a 2+2 US import non-matching numbers lhd. You also need to find an E-type spec 4.2 engine which I believe is different in the oil pan, carbs etc to the no doubt numerous XJ 4.2s out there. You are going to need a gearbox aswell and will have to sort out the engine and gearbox mounting issues on installing that V8.

So if you can get the car for £30k, sell the V8 engine and box for a decent price (shame no photos ), fit a proper 4.2, get someone to help fix the bonnet, convert to RHD, go through rest of car (suspension, brakes and wheels), are capable enough to do it from home to save on labour cost, you could actually have a cracking car which will be worth what you have put in. Hopefully this suits someone out there - not me unfortunately as I am useless in the garage.
Or... don't spend a penny on it and have fun drashing around.

No pics of the engine but the text says
It came out of a cobra AND it states it’s a 302ci, ie a ford Windsor. Obviously it didn’t come out of a 289 or 427 cobra. Most likely a Windsor that was at some point in a cobra replica.

Who knows without really checking in detail, it might just have Cobra rocker covers for all we know.

Wow, how to ruin those elegant lines in one fell swoop... that bonnet bulge just looks awful, like stuffing a flannel down your swimming trunks (not that I ever did !) And why no pics of the engine ? In any event, it's left hand drive, so yet another boring Stateside import. Definitely not for me anyway.

A lesson in how to make a good looking car ugly.

The only E Type that works is the S1 convertible, or some of eagles creations.

This is an abomination, frankly.

Ex London motor museum scrap.

Shame, I think a V8 powered E type would be great. But not this one.

Correct. A shady setup, owner picked a fight with the tax man (and lost).

If you're going to stick a V8 in an E type, why not put in a Daimler 2.5 or (even better) 4.5? A lot lighter than the XK.

Before my time so I don’t really ‘get’ the E-type. Neither the styling not how it drives.

My dads friend has one in his collection, they both fawn over it.

I can respect it’s place in history, but that is all, I’d never actually want one.
Believe me they all drive horribly, although in-period they were acceptable, just.. Only good for posing nowadays. As for that V8 wart-like contraption it's a real ugly cockup.

Thankfully this was done to the 2nd ugliest and least loved E-type.

Great project. Sell the V8, smooth the bonnet, fit a proper engine and job done. Prefer coupe to drophead all day long too.
