Morning All,
I had lent a family member a car And added them to my multi car policy in their name but I’m still admin for that policy Also have authority and responsible for all financials.whilst they were driving it they was hit and the car was written off. We agreed a settlement, now the family member has diverted the payout to their bank account and done a bunk Abroad with the money.I am the registered keeper .The car had a small amount of finance on it In my name which was Settled. I have complained to admiral through Complaints but doubt I’ll here for a week or so.Is there anything I can do or is it tough luck for trusting this person. Any advice other than don’t lend cars out very much appreciated.
Thanks In Advance

It sounds like your family member needs to learn some life lessons. Theft is wrong, no matter how self entitled they may be.

First phone call should be to Admiral. As you are the policyholder, how did your family member get hold of the settlement? You mentioned that the family member 'diverted the money'...how? Did they phone Admiral and ask for it to be paid into their bank account? If so, Admiral shouldn't have done this without your permission (as you are the policyholder). That needs clarification.

Second phone call should be to the police to report the theft of the money (through fraud/deception).

That's theft, isn't it?

As mentioned already, how????

Brother, sister, son, daughter, wife ? We need to know all the gory details.

I wonder if we will hear back from the OP.

The policy was in my step daughters name i have an Admiral multi car and added her to it on one of my vehicles with me as administrator/ approved access , sadly the email we’re going from my account but she had agreed to make sure the bank details given were mine but instead gave hers and done the off

If the policy was in your step daughter name as far as admiral are concerned it's her policy not yours

How much money is involved OP?

You have to decide if you want to put it down to experience or risk the wrath possibly of her mother, who is presumably your wife/partner.

If it is only a small amount maybe it is not worth the potential trouble, but if it is £k's maybe she needs to know she can't just walk away from you with what is basically yours.

Not a good situation to be in.

Thankfully my wife is with me it’s just under 6k , just found out she had removed me just before changing the outgoing bank account so they can’t discuss anything with me, st position to be in and value is irrelevant . Looks like another expensive lesson in life

I would not be giving up that easy, maybe contact the police, theft is theft.

She cannot remove you from your own policy.

So it was your policy but she was able to remove you from it? Yeah, sure.

We need to establish some facts before proceeding:

- you state it was her policy but that you had added her to your multi car policy. This doesn’t make it her policy unless she had her own, stand alone policy
-was she perhaps processing the claim on your behalf and had your log in details? This would enable her to masquerade as you and change details like the bank account?
-I personally wouldn’t be letting 6k go. She is hardly likely to have moved to Brazil with just 6k so must be near. I’d be tracking her down PDQ (or are you in some way unable to do so, perhaps elderly?)
-How well do you know your partner? Sorry to say this but could she be complicit?
-Normally in cases like this people abscond with the money because they know the person they have stolen from won’t call the police. Are you 100% this is all there is to the story?

Otherwise I’d locate her, tell her she needs to give the money back or I would be informing the 5-0.

Presumably each had there own policy and just a multicar discount for two policy at the same address

Me and family member get this with Aviva
Both totally separate policy's not even named driver's on each others or anything

It’s her policy not his! He just pays for it.

Also, the police won’t give a damn. You’ll have to sue her for it. And bloody well drag her ass to court and teach her a lesson.

So you added her as a named driver to your policy?

If it's your policy, how is it in her name?

Ah...so it's your policy...?
All of the above just does not compute.

OP. If you do end up reporting this to the police, you really do need to sit down and work out what happened, and explain it in a way that other people can understand.

Your story, so far, makes very little sense.

Very confused.

Is OP policy holder or not?
Surely the vehicles registered keeper gets the payout?
I know you said that the insurance Co. Won't talk to you. But have you insisted , and raised a complaint?

Either way you need to get court proceedings issued.
Go to your local Bobby station and get a case raised.

Have a free 30 min with a solicitor.
Take all the necessary paperwork... insurance docs , emails etc.

I have an Admiral insurance policy where cars and homes are under 1 address and I am responsible financially for all payments as administrator . My step daughter had her own policy under this multi policy and I have authority to speak with Admiral on all policies whether mine or not. She has removed me as a person with Authority and requested Admiral pay the settlement into her account. A complaint has been raised but I probably will not here for a few days. The payment was sent Thursday so I was trying to block this yesterday which I can’t as my authority has been removed and admiral will not discuss with me.She had previously lived in Spain so has probably bolted there .i am the registered keeper, owner.

So it was her policy, but she crashed your car?
