One last hurah for the Marlborough man car company. Another rusty wreck within 10 years and not an electric version in sight. Farewell Ford, you stick to your guns as the sun sets on a stayed, inspirationless range - unsuited to the new world. Tesla will eat you for breakfast (they could already buy you many times over if you made anything of value to the car market and didn't owe so many $Billions).
Marlboro.
Staid.
Just sew you no!
Not sure Ford are listening to you by the way.

Big thumbs up from me, assume they will bring it here which means there will be some brilliant (and not so) modified version floating around shortly after.

I can't really get excited about this and I must admit, I'm a bit puzzled by the PH outpouring of wonder and delight for this rather obvious American retro pastiche.
Mind you, this forum also thought the Jimny was the answer to any question asked so who's to say which way is up.

Exactly how could Tesla buy Ford once, let alone many times over?

Well I don’t think the Ford board of directors will end up in prison, which is precisely where Elon and his merry band may end up... Good luck with Tesla stock then!

I think he’s mistaken the ridiculous, hype inflated market cap with actual money in the bank...

I mean somehow they are worth more than VW and Toyota combined...I don’t think they’ll be buying either of those guys either.

Love the 2 and 4

That sport version is a horrible little thing though

Looks great, far less kitsch than a Wrangler. Would buy one with no hesitation if I lived in the US, but not sure it's a good fit for the UK market. Interested to see the dimensions, as it looks very big.

Just reinforces what a disappointment the design of the new Defender is.

I don't understand the version with the holes in the doors?
Is that coz you're only thinking in the context of the UK?

M
no, as somebody who doesn't understand what function they serve which isn't a compromise on just removing the entire door (which is an option too) - with added compromise of no drop glass/door storage/side intrusion protection/all the other package issues in door design which aren't helped by a tunnel running through the door - not sure what that has to do with being from the UK - but I notice you haven't provided any explanation?

There seem to be an awful lot of comments on this thread that express that it's somehow PH's fault that the posters of said comments didn't know what a Ford Bronco was before today...

I knew someone who had to sell his Wrangler since it was so uncomfortable. I wonder if this new Bronco has the same level of 'un-comfort'. And, if it doesn't, will its interested buyers consider that a problem?

I really do love the shape of this. I've informed SWMBO that if this comes out here, unless its ridiculously large, it's my next car.

That looks good. If it is around £25k and you can hose out the interior, it will kill the Defender.
Yes but how many sheep can it carry?

Can it be airdropped?

How many bales of hay can it fit?

Can you repair it in the most remote parts of Africa with a rock?
laugh That is strangely important to people who will never venture to Africa!

This hose out interior is marketing nonsense, I never once hosed out the inside of my Defender, despite using it off road, it had carpets like most of them do! Sure modified serious off roaders have no carpets and get hosed out, but I cannot see a brand new Bronco being abused on a flooded greenlane up to its doorhandles in mud.

A RHD one might not sell well here but I’m sure people said that about the Mustang and I think that was the most sold “sports” vehicle in the UK and EU, if it was priced well maybe?

Trouble is I don’t think it will be priced well. For ref a similar US import, a new Wrangler Rubicorn is £40k + which if used for a second car puts it into nice sports car territory (i.e. a Mustang if US metal is what you want) and if it’s intended use is as a daily £40k buys a decent SUV softroader, which probably does the daily road use better. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see the “Sport” version here because of that.

I like the full sized one, but would I spend the inevitable extra over a Grenadier (should they get the factory sorted)? Unlikely. Are farmers going to buy it? No they moved away from LR and things like this for Hilux’s a long time ago.
Such is the absolute importance of being able to hose out a car among a section of society one could almost begin to suspect that anal prolapses and general incontinence is more prevalent than we assume?

Or is a windows down dogging niche?

Surely once a car is out of the hands of users who fit big rubber mats or even seat covers then you’re into the realms of just removing the carpets and the bungs?

I think it's great. Jeep sell 250,000 wranglers per year in the US, they have a cult following and a huge aftermarket business. Ford clearly wants a slice of that pie. Ford sells 900,000 F150 pick up trucks per year in the US and it's a massive cash cow for them. I don't see the Bronco as anachronistic at all, I see it as a low risk cash cow for Ford which will no doubt help fund their future electric plans. Certainly more of a hedged bet (and far more desirable to me) than a new Ford Fusion (Mondeo) for example...

Ok, so the word sport has lost all meaning now, in any automotive sense. I don't see that "sport" being used for anything sporty.
SniffPetrol agrees - https://sniffpetrol.com/2014/09/03/land-rover-anno...

"Land Rover last night revealed its brand new Discovery Sport at a glittering ceremony in Birmingham or, as the company now calls it, London Sport."

This is what it should have looked like - instead (as usual) they took the easy route and made it look like a pimped-out Kia Soul. No thanks.

Ford has just decimated sales of the new Defender and the Wrangler in the US. What a wonderfully rugged looking thing.
