Good morning all.

I've been a regular tyre kicker on the PH classifieds for a while but I've just taken the plunge and joined the forums. I'm interested on pretty much all eras of cars and slowly but surely building up an odd and eclectic collection - looking forward to hopefully getting out and bout this summer to events around the midlands.

Thanks,

Matthew

Hi, I am new here and seeking help. I have just had an above knee amputation. I own a Mk1 Ford Focus RS which I have had since new in 2003. I wish to carry on driving the car, has anyone any experience of fitting a ‘ Duck Clutch’ or details of companies that fit. I have been told that a car the same as mine was converted for a double amputee in Germany? Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Welcome to PH Matthew! Why not start a Readers' Cars thread so we can see your collection?

Welcome to PH Paul, and I'm sorry to hear about your amputation. I'd suggest posting a thread in our Engines & Drivetrain forum to see if anyone has any advice.

Long time lurker.

Northern, gay, autistic, millennial Foster Carer. With a Volvo. So not much going for me, to be honest.

Here to see if I’m allowed to be a car enthusiast without knowing the bore diameter of a piston in an engine that was only built between 12th March 1987 and 13th March 1987, or something. (Can you tell I’ve been burned by Facebook groups?)

And while I’m here, I might try and soak up wisdom from all those I perceive to be “proper” adults merely by dint of their 20/30 year age-superiority (I’m 34; of the generation of ‘suspended adolescence’ who are now somewhat paralysed in the face of finance, property and responsibility.)

So.. Hi! I’m Dan.

N.B I also have an NB MX-5, not just the Dad-wagon.

Thanks Ben.

Can I ask what the difference is between General Gassing, Pie and Piston and The Lounge? Do they serve different audiences somehow, or…?

A very good question! All forums have a parent forum – General Gassing is a bit confusing as we have the same name for both the parent and we have a General Gassing forum within in. GG is for all non-make specific motoring chat.

The Pie & Piston is then the parent group for our non-motoring forums, with The Lounge being the main non-motoring forum to post in.

If you're unsure where to post anything, feel free to ask here or a moderator will likely move your thread to the right place otherwise.

Hello all and thanks for accepting my request. Currently living in Spain and on the lookout for a 981 Boxster. Nothing specific to add/request at this time but looking forward to tapping into the wealth of knowledge within the group 😊

Welcome! We have a forum dedicated to the Cayman/Boxster if you have any specific questions (great choice too).

Hi Jaser, welcome to PH.
Feel free to start a thread in the reader’s cars area to tell us all about your car and the restoration. You have an interesting car and I am sure there are quite a few PHers who would like to read about it and some who may be able to help if you have any issues.

Hi. I'm new on hear. I'm after some advice on what to do re buying a new car or sticking with my current car. I've got a Toyota Avensis D4D estate 2.0 , 2011 year but am finding it really expensive on fuel commuting to work. I've been told remapping the engine will help with fuel economy?? I need to find a more economical car but still need a family car big enough for a Labrador and kids! I've been looking at Insignias or Skoda Octavias?? Any advice would be very much appreciated

^^ Hi and welcome to PH.
Probably best to start a topic here: Car Buying, or have a read of existing topics and see if any are relevant to your needs.

Have fun.

Hello PistonHeads,
I hope you don't mind me posting in the forum. I have found PistonHeads a treasure trove of info in the past but couldn't find an answer to this in the searches, I thank you in advance for your time.

So I moved in late April. Bought a new car in May. When I bought the car I gave my new address to the dealer, but I only got around to updating my driving licence with the DVLA to that new address after I had bought the car. I know I should have updated it earlier, but I can’t change that now.

Anyways, fast forward a month and my direct debit for taxing the car returned on me (I didn’t know that they charge double for the first direct debit) and now I need to re-tax the car. I can’t use the green slip because I understand that that is a single use thing and I’ve never been sent the v5c log book for the car.

Should the V5C logbook not have been sent to the address that I gave the dealer (my new address) as that is the address I saw him write on the form?

Or is it the address that the DVLA associates with the licence number that is written on the logbook which the seller sends on? So it doesn’t matter what address that the seller writes for the buyer?

Nothing has changed except the address on my licence since I bought the car and last taxed it, I just haven’t received the the V5C and I’m not sure why DVLA have set vehicle tax up in a way that makes it so difficult for me to give the money I need to give them.
Either way, I need to sort this and I’d rather not have to pay 25£ for a V5C when I’ve never had one for this car - and I was hoping the venerable piston heads could give me some advice.

Also, in case it is useful info the DVLA website says a new log book has been issued within the last two weeks for this car.

Thank you,
Will
