Do you need to do a lot of miles FatLad? I must admit that as a W124 nut, I always miss not having one around and keep coming back to them.
That's the thing, I don't need to do many miles and I do have faith in its reliability. But I prefer it as a second car and I admit I am a little worried about the image thing (it's Willow Green with bamboo cloth, ginger indicators... how the hell does that go down if I start dating someone outside this thread? I'd have more luck in a SC430 )TyrannosauRoss Lex said:

We still, perversely, give thanks that our dad just predeceased the virus, so we were able to say our goodbyes with his many friends in attendance. Condolences.
I lost my grandfather in May (not covid), the funeral was certainly a little different!!TW124 said:
Anyone fancying a cheapo W124 then " my friend " has got one to go. 95 E220 4 dr, 159k, MOT Feb 21, Azurite blue & beige cloth, mechanically running well, pulls strong, auto gearbox is good, coil springs new 2k miles ago, body isn't brilliant by any means, front wings aren't great, rear inner wings welded for MOT last time, it needs minor jobs ongoing. Lots of work done in the last 2 years. One or two odd quirks as usual but the whole of the underneath is corrosion free and the rear subframe is perfect. Drives decent too, recent oil, air & oil filter change amongst other work. I've heard £1k might buy it or thereabouts. Decent enough to barge about in.
Yes - I think that may be exactly what I need in my life right now. Is it up 'er in't North?Edited by TW124 on Thursday 22 October 01:57
ETA - though the MOT corrosion failures around the seatbelt anchors is slightly worrying - I assume that has all been sorted to allow it to get through its MOT?

Keep the w124 and go for the hipster look Thoughts go to those threadists that have lost relatives, it's a crap time.
I was trying to sort coming to the meet. But apparently the people of Barnsley are unable to wash their hands properly and so anyone who lives South Yorkshire is now in Tear 3 (deliberate spelling). It's all a bit wk.

Yet I'm fine in East Yorkshire where vast amounts of foreign trucks come in every day, I'm baffled by a lot of the strange rules like 10pm closing and only drinks with meals I was trying to sort coming to the meet. Hi Emeye, the seat belt anchor on the MOT was actually the N/S rear inner arch just in front of the rear wheel, the tester was tapping around the arches and ended up putting two holes through that area, so both sides got the welding sorted out and the O/S rear shock absorber mount was also sorted out. It also has about 10 litres of Fuchs semi synth oil, a poly v belt and a MANN fuel filter too. 2 Local long term owners before my " friend ". No proof of history - his fault but it does run well but overall it's just an average 124 really, not a stbox and far front mint but worth a grand I reckon.ETA - though the MOT corrosion failures around the seatbelt anchors is slightly worrying - I assume that has all been sorted to allow it to get through its MOT?

Forgot to mention the advisories after the retest - anti-roll bar bushes have all been replaced, there's no fluid leak and the suspension things are the ball joints, which haven't been done, the wishbone set up is the one that can have the ball joint only replaced rather than a full wishbone. Ball joints are £20 for 2 of them, they've not been done and will need doing.

For bottom of thread it sounds an ideal 124 smoker barge in which to run about. It would also be a good opportunity to have a nose around TW124's friend's mightily impressive collection
That's exactly what I was thinking. A barge meet combined with a visit to W124 (well, his friend, obvs) would be a day or two very well spent. Shame I'm PNG as far as UK is concerned. tobinen said:

That's dwindled recently by 11 cars through a couple of specialist auction houses - hard times and needs must sort of thing. Another 15 or so to go before the end of the year. Hoping to emigrate in the new year.TW124 said:

What's for the chop this year? And where are you going if you can say/don't mind me asking?

Tobinen - no problem asking - we're moving to our place in Spain, hoping to use that as a base then do some travelling ( obviously if things get a lot more settled ) and to do some sailing around the Greek islands which is one of my dreams, hence getting rid of a lot of cars I've been sitting on for quite some time now. Most of them are actually investments for me, some are very personal which won't be sold ever, but the majority are being moved on in the coming months into next year. I'm hoping to capitalise because I can't draw down on a pension for 4 more years yet. And, life it too short to mess about waiting for that to happen not to mention hoarding cars that are just chunks of cash waiting to be spent on doing some proper living before it's too late. And where are you going if you can say/don't mind me asking?
The 928GTS, SL60 gone to a trader, S55, both W108's, the W116 450 SEL 6.9, 190SL, 560SL, 3 x 129's to a trader have all gone up to now.
In the pipeline to go next week are 2 x 129's to a dealer which leaves me a 600SL, one auction house is selling these for me - 1 x 500E, 1 x E500, 3 x 126 SEC's, W112 300SE. Another auction company are going to do these - C43 AMG, SL55, 140 S600, 560 SEL, a couple of 123's and a 190. I have another old friend who's a trader taking 2 off me in December. I've also got a SLR Maclaren Merc which is going to a specialist on sale or return with 1200 miles on it. And far too many 126's and all those are going to different people except one I'm keeping.
I'll be left with some nice stuff, roughly 10 cars and I'll sell a few others privately. Some of the sentimental cars I'm hoping to offer up for display, maybe a museum or a dealer etc to save me the storage and insurance costs.
Realistically, I'm asset rich, cashflow poor currently and Covid hasn't helped and I've a couple of dreams to live for.
