I came off my bike and currently notified insurance, looks like bike might be a write-off.

I bought the bike off my brother 3 years ago but I never changed the v5 details as he leaves next door.

I'm the legal owner of the bike etc but not having the v5 in my name shouldn't be a issue, right?

Feedback and advice welcome . . .thanks in advance!

One of the questions I'm always asked is "are you the registered keeper". If you've been asked that & replied no you will be OK I reckon.

There are certain insurance companies out there who will use any wrinkle to get out of paying, one notably far worse than all the others. That one in particular is likely to refuse your claim if you were wearing charcoal grey socks and told them you always wear black.

The post above is on the money, did you say that you weren't the registered keeper? Most sites ask you that. If you didn't declare it, whilst it's not likely to be a complete cause to refuse your claim, it may make things slightly more of a ballache.

Thanks guys!

I can't remember what I ticked/confirmed when I took out the policy (to be honest I had forgotten to register the v5)

I'm assuming I confirmed it was on my name (thinking it was)

It certainly won't help - if they notice.

You could ask to buy the salvage back - frequently worth doing and sticking it on ebay for a profit, then they probably won't get to see the V5

I think it was all very quick and easy when my wife wrote her car off (although they may have checked docs online)

I am not my brother’s (car’s registered) keeper!

I'm guessing you said you were the registered keeper as if not many companies would not have quoted . Don't draw attention to the fact and hope for the best . It shouldn't really make any difference but CAPPO and I may be thinking about the same pedantic company
